The light is wonderful in this video. And Tollesbury Creek at low tide is not a place where any boat but a duck punt can go, a magical environment.

Amazes me how you can sail your punt in water not much deeper than a puddle 🤣. Another brilliant video, thanks👍.

Brilliant! Such a beautiful video. I just don’t understand why these aren’t one of the most popular designs in the world, there is no other boat that can sail where a Duckpunt can sail. It’s so much fun, I just love mine!

Totally agree, of all the boats I have owned the punt has given me the most pleasure.

You and your mates around Mersea Island, inspired me to build my own DuckPunt in Karimunjawa Indonesia. My first sailing boat ever, and I just learned some basic sailing by myself around 3 months ago. I experiment a lot with different sails. Apart from a very old but nice Optimist Sprit, we do have some home- made sails, made from bamboo and old cotton bed sheets. We made a "Oceanic Lateen", which is common here by fisherman, and a Balanced Lug Sail. Both work well with the DuckPunt. Will soon add a Lateen (small sunfish) and a Leg O Mutton, too. The Duck Punt is great! To my surprise it is rather seaworthy. Last time I had it out in heavy winds and some chop. We had waves up to 3 ft, and when running into them, I did not experience much pounding, or any slapping, so common on flat-bottom boats... Even did some surfing with it, which was a lot of fun, but sometimes a bit scary, as well. Btw, I do use a "nodo stroppo" to attach the steering oar to the tholepin. In my opinion this makes sense, at least for a beginner, like me... Maybe the boys, back in the days, did the same, when out there duck hunting... Anyway, your videos are fantastic and always a great pleasure to watch! Thank you very much! (...if you like to see me and "Moana" in some super light winds in Indonesia, I just uploaded a video... kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpm8gp2DnL2rerc ) Cheers... On more time, thank you for inspiring me to build this boat !

@@lurch1e Thank you! Will certainly post some more stuff soon, on our young channel... About the duck punt itself. What I experienced, it is all about balance and shifting body weight. It is certainly not a boat, where you should put a seat in, at least in my opinion. Flat floor is the way to go, like yours. However, there are those times where I still have difficulties going upwind. It works for me, but looks so much better and easier in some of your videos. To find the sweetspot for body position, can sometimes be a bit difficult. At least in the duck punt I have, even with the Optimist Sprit Sail. Hopefully it gets better with more experience... Any tips from your side, regarding going upwind? Sail trim ? Or you use the steering oar a certain way? Btw, what is the size of the oars, you guys use? You do row the duck punts as well, right? Because I sometimes paddle it like a canoe, J strokes, if the wind dies...Like my boats to be as simple as possible. Anyway, the duck punt is a great boat to have around here, in shallow water Karimunjawa. And one more time, your channel and videos are awesome! Thank You.

When we get a big tide we can sail down the road that joins the Island with the main land. Check out kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIrdZZSefax8q7c
