Wow, another fantastic video. With channels like yours it's no wonder KZbin is fast overtaking terresterial tv. What a monster Mackeral, if you'd been in your kayak I could have seen it taking a chunk out of the side. But, it makes you realise how lucky we are to live within travelling distance of such a fabulous coastline. The best 30 minutes I've spent in a long time.

Some of my best or luckiest fishing gear is really cheap stuff people would turn their nose up at nowadays if you were 10 or over but those starter kits all in one for £10/15 kept me fishing for years and 1 I still use on the river and I gifted another to my friends son as my friend wanted to get him into the sport but couldn't find a rod cheap enough and small enough locally so I passed it on and I saw him catch his first Pollack with it, nothing beats seeing someone catching their first ever fish 🐟.

Would you consider doing a kayak tutorial when you go out next? I have an ocean kayak scupper pro with a garmin sounder and a small handheld gps. I use these for freedive spearfishing pollack on offshore reefs but would like to try out the rod and soft plastics for cod as I rarely see these when I'm underwater. I'm thinking they must be in the kelps so I'm wondering how you choose the ground and do you get snagged much. I don't yet have a drift anchor but I am kitted for static anchoring as that's what I do offshore while I'm underwater. Thanks for the vids.

Enjoyed the video. I'm curious about your technique you don't seem to do a lot of retrieving, is it just a case of flicking the lure out and letting it drift ? I only ask as I'm going to Dorset this summer and plan to have a go at LRF.
@SlippyLimpets
@SlippyLimpets 2 жыл бұрын
It's a technique called fishing on the drop. It's really deep so it takes a while for the light lure to sink. I let the lure hit the seabed and if they haven't hit the lure by the time it reaches the seabed, then I do a lift and draw until it's under my feet. And repeat

Great stuff, but what your thoughts on handling mackerel?
@SlippyLimpets
@SlippyLimpets 3 жыл бұрын
I'm guess you're asking if we should handle them or not... I've done a bit of research on it and there seems to be contradictory evidence going round. britishseafing.co.uk says it's fine but there are some compelling arguments on WSF saying otherwise. I would have thought IFCA would tell us if it's bad to handle them or not.

If your casting weight is 2-10g, won’t bigger fish bend the rod? Newbie to lrf and fancy getting a rod to save hassle and change things up. Thanks.
@SlippyLimpets
@SlippyLimpets 3 жыл бұрын
As anglers, we want to have a bend in the rod, that's part of the fun of using light tackle- The bigger the bend in the rod the better the sensation of the fight is. LRF is a great way of fishing, even small fish can put a bend in the rod.
@kennywhyte4977
@kennywhyte4977 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for replying dude. I meant wouldn’t bigger fish cause the rod to bend and snap/buckle considering the light casting weight but it all makes sense now. Thanks bud
@SlippyLimpets
@SlippyLimpets 3 жыл бұрын
Ah, I get you... a bigger fish could snap your rod but that's where the drag on your reel comes in handy, you can loosen it off so if you do hook a big'n and it lunges,then your reel will release line and save your rod, or/and line, from snapping

Can anyone answer this Question for me please, Is sea fishing or rock fishing like this video ok to fish all year round? I know river fishing depends on what time of year it is(i think). When it comes to fishing I'm really green, I wanna start up as a nice hobby hopefully. I appreciate any answers, Please take it easy on me. Thank you in advance.

Oh, just found the answer on another comment. Please don't climb down those cliff faces as you get older. There's more chance of coming a cropper and/or not being able to get back up. It was another of your vids that scared the bejeebers out of me. I'm an old fart and now accept I just can't do what I once could. Besides which, I have lost my head for heights!

Nice, really enjoyed this video. Subscribing was easy decision. As a side note I've read the the Berkley NanoFil line is very fussy with knot choise. Can I ask what not you used to join your leader?
@SlippyLimpets
@SlippyLimpets 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the sub!! I use an FG for all my leaders and usually tie the first two overhands around the Mainline. Found that the NanoFil prefered the first two overhands tied around the leader and the Mainline, else it compromised it's strength

No worries, I tend to use the lift and draw technique, which means I wait for my lure to hit the bottom, lift the rod tip up and wind down a couple of times, then wait for my lure to hit the bottom again and then repeat. Hope this helps 👍

Have you found that with Global warming that you catch different species fish from warmer climates. I live in the South of New Zealand and we now catch fish from the North Island.

I have noticed a difference over the past couple of seasons, we can now catch dogfish (small shark species considered a pest) and more bass than in previous years.

Nice video and som nice fish. I have a few question for you.Don't you ever take some fish for food?And Why can't you release the fish by putting them back instead of throwing them back into the sea especially the last pollack?
@SlippyLimpets

I've found that the fish always swim back more frequently if they've been released this way, but only head first. if not then I'll take it home with me 👍 glad you liked the video. Tight lines!
