Lure fishing for Pollack is a Totally Awesome Fishing Show production packed with beginners tips for lure fishing. Graeme & Mike Pullen travel to Courtmacsherry in Southern Ireland to try their fishing skills in a 16 -foot open boat. They head out to the open Atlantic armed only with a box of lures and some ultra-light spinning rods. Target species is the hard fighting Pollack, and their different lures and techniques create mayhem in the fish population as they catch fish after fish. This light tackle fishing appeals to many anglers as you don't need a lot of expensive tackle. Often you can make use of whatever you have. The area is a fisherman's paradise, where you can nearly always get to find somewhere to fish. Mark Gannon's self-drive hire boats are ideal for this type of fishing and you get to become "Captain for the day". Courtmacsherry is about an hours drive from the ferry port of Rosslare and the Stena Lines ferry crossing can get you into fishguard in wales in around 3 hours. It's a trip worth taking! - AWESOME!

Left on the mooring.Too far to tow to Ireland,the small self-drives are ideal for this type of fishing.Just jump out the car walk to the boat,load up and go.Perfect.No worries about towing/.launching/retrieve,bearing seize,blowout,loose straps etc.

You need the lead to get down in deeper water/stronger tides/faster drifts etc.Might be 2 ounces,could be up to 1 lb if you are over a deepwater wreck in a wind and spring tide.

You need to check with another regular there as it all depends on size of bait you are using and size of fish.I would have thought about 4/0 would be big enough.Don't pull them too hard,especially as you try to haul them through the last of the surf.It can open the hook.Let any fish wash up with each wave,don't try to hold it if the wave sucks it back.Good luck with them,sounds as though you are having success

All the lures come packaged with the hooks,or are molded into the head of the lure.Unless you mean the plastic worms ? 2/0 to 4/0 I guess is average.

im up in northern norway and i dont know if they grow faster up here but the ones i catch under 2.5kg/6lb still have a more silver colour and its just the big ones who have that beautiful gold shimmer. my biggest caught so far from the dock into the deepest stretch of the fjord was 4.4kg or nearly 10lb it was a really nice fight on my light gear, so are the cod but i need to invest in some heavy gear as i have lost a few lures and a lot of line to halibut the last few weeks and still have not managed to bring one in.

Do you need to use a weight? Why not just tie the mainline directly to the metal loop on the lure and fish it vertically, keeping in contact with the lure?

Hi guys , I think I have watched all your vids now , I have an Orkney long liner and am taking it to the Llyn peninsula next week for its maiden sea voyage , Boys what wind speed would deter you from taking out an 18 ft dinghy, the forecast is between 12 and 25 mph winds , would this put you guys off or would you consider it reasonably safe for inshore fishing ? Any help would be appreciated , I have spent an hour searching u tube for advice and found nothing of use .
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 5 жыл бұрын
I spent about 3 years cancelling trips down Cornwall that gave borderline forecasts,and then the weather turned out great !! I personally don't like going out in anything blowing a force 3 unless they give it dropping. Especially if it is due to deteriorate as that 3 could suddenly go to a 5 and then you have problems.When I did a lot of self drive fishing from rental boats in Florida I would put a limit on going offshore of 10 knots,as the boats were Boston Whaler design,not unlike my own which is a Cathedral hull so will bang in any sort of head sea.You want to enjoy your fishing,not make an endurance test out of it.Watch the isobar forecasts and check out your local weather sites.Ask other small boat users as well.But the main thing is..don't take chances. If in doubt..Leave it out !...You can always take another day.

Personally, I use black or orange sidewinder lures but red eddystone eel lures are also deadly, but they have to be weighted down. With spinners, I find that a plink followed by a toby lure at a steady retrieve works best, close to the bottom. Hope this helped.
