Left on the mooring.Too far to tow to Ireland,the small self-drives are ideal for this type of fishing.Just jump out the car walk to the boat,load up and go.Perfect.No worries about towing/.launching/retrieve,bearing seize,blowout,loose straps etc.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 11 жыл бұрын
You need the lead to get down in deeper water/stronger tides/faster drifts etc.Might be 2 ounces,could be up to 1 lb if you are over a deepwater wreck in a wind and spring tide.

I found a place in Kerry (Ireland/where I live) and its a bridge, drop any lure down and you catch 1 pounder pollock all day (they ain't the biggest but it's fun). caught around 50 in two days in the spot, which is very public!!

You need to check with another regular there as it all depends on size of bait you are using and size of fish.I would have thought about 4/0 would be big enough.Don't pull them too hard,especially as you try to haul them through the last of the surf.It can open the hook.Let any fish wash up with each wave,don't try to hold it if the wave sucks it back.Good luck with them,sounds as though you are having success

Do you need to use a weight? Why not just tie the mainline directly to the metal loop on the lure and fish it vertically, keeping in contact with the lure?

Hi guys , I think I have watched all your vids now , I have an Orkney long liner and am taking it to the Llyn peninsula next week for its maiden sea voyage , Boys what wind speed would deter you from taking out an 18 ft dinghy, the forecast is between 12 and 25 mph winds , would this put you guys off or would you consider it reasonably safe for inshore fishing ? Any help would be appreciated , I have spent an hour searching u tube for advice and found nothing of use .
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 6 жыл бұрын
I spent about 3 years cancelling trips down Cornwall that gave borderline forecasts,and then the weather turned out great !! I personally don't like going out in anything blowing a force 3 unless they give it dropping. Especially if it is due to deteriorate as that 3 could suddenly go to a 5 and then you have problems.When I did a lot of self drive fishing from rental boats in Florida I would put a limit on going offshore of 10 knots,as the boats were Boston Whaler design,not unlike my own which is a Cathedral hull so will bang in any sort of head sea.You want to enjoy your fishing,not make an endurance test out of it.Watch the isobar forecasts and check out your local weather sites.Ask other small boat users as well.But the main thing is..don't take chances. If in doubt..Leave it out !...You can always take another day.

@masterblob7196
@masterblob7196 8 жыл бұрын
Personally, I use black or orange sidewinder lures but red eddystone eel lures are also deadly, but they have to be weighted down. With spinners, I find that a plink followed by a toby lure at a steady retrieve works best, close to the bottom. Hope this helped.

Unpriceable !!!!! Get out there and check skips and bins at tackle shops.Amazing what they throw out.You can build 6 ft spinning rods for next to nothing if you scout out all the rings/fittings,rod sections.Worth asking anyway.If its busted they generally just store it.
