That action is absolutely amazing!! I have a '50's era lure that works on the same helical principle: it's made like a long flat willow-leaf spoon that has been twisted into a spiral. But it has no shaft, just a swivel at one end and a split ring at the other. Yours is a much better and more elegant design. I'm going to try making a tiny one for trout - but instead of running wire down the axis, I'm going to replace that with a section of a WD40 spray nozzle, blunt the ends with a Bic lighter, then thread it onto my leader, add a bobber-stop or a few beads, then tie on a fly, so I can cast the rig on a flyrod.

That's a pretty sweet lure you made there. I've never seen that method. Your test tank is beautiful! I've always wanted a tank with different sunfish. They are prettier and way more fun to watch than the fish you get from stores. I'm making a couple kastmaster/spoons as Christmas gifts for coworkers right now made from solid brass. Making your own lures makes fishing that much more satisfying
@TreysArt3 жыл бұрын
I agree. I’ve got to the point now to where I only want to use lures I’ve made lol. It’s so much more gratifying to catch one on something you made.

@@TreysArt I'll never forget the first fish I caught on a lure I made. I really wish we could post pictures in comments here on KZbin so we could all share between each other. Great idea. Possible to put the lead/weight in the middle so spin around it instead? Would be perfect for seatrout.

The weight would probably need to be glued in place to do that otherwise it would be resting on the blade which would make it hard for it to start spinning.

It's a Great idea, I am going to try it myself. But I was wondering what the thickness of the sheet metal was, how long is the blade that you cut out, what is the max weight that it can support, 1/2 once, 3/8 once,1/4 once? Could let me know?
@TreysArt11 ай бұрын
The only thing I remember from making this was that the sheet metal I used was 1mm stainless steel. Everything else was guess work.

I've had other BPM baits kzbin.infoUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 before and they've pretty much always came through for me with the suskie smallies here and even with the walleye and pike, but I realized I didn't have an "in-between" pattern so this junebug one fills that role in no problem. it pairs up magnificently with a junebug Zoom Z-craw Jr that was trimmed a couple millimeters before the hook slots and rigged sideways for that fatter panfish side profile while still being a nice'n'compact presentation, a real power-finesse bait. Hell, it was so pretty I even bothered to fotosketch the pic into a watercolor painting image just to show you it's beauty! Even the blades are really well made, sure, they're not of Hildebrandt-level exquisiteness but look at the bead's reflection on the colorado blade, definitely well-made! The only "problem" spot it had was a bald spot in the skirt but it was nothing that I couldn't easily fix with a but of tuggin'n'shiftin' with the strands for a couple of seconds, besides that it is pretty minty!

Hi, Trey. I don't know how I missed this one, but because I have become interested in spinner-blade designs, I just watched it. Twice.The pronounced wobble you describe is definitely there, and I can see it clearly in the streamer-like trailer. Wow. Now, of course, I want to make several of these and wonder if you'd be willing to share just a couple of dimensions: How thick was the steel you used? What were the length and width of your prototype? I would really appreciate your help because-unless my eyes are deceiving me-your design imparts significantly more action than the standard French blades used in most in-line spinners. Hope you continued your experimentation and will share
@TreysArt Жыл бұрын
I actually haven’t done anymore testing with that one unfortunately. It’s been a while and I don’t remember all the stats on it, it was a stainless steel backsplash I repurposed and was prob about 1mm thick and I believe the design I cut out was roughly 2” inches.

I have some scrap copper tubing that I have pounded flat for making spinner blades. Would copper work for your lure or do you think it might be too light?
@TreysArt2 жыл бұрын
I think it would work as long as it’s not load bearing like a chatterbait blade would be. Only thing is that copper would oxides over time kinda like green rust. With that said I haven’t tried it myself. I would say give it a shot. Even if it don’t work out you’ll learn something from it.

This is my very first time watching you make a lure however I've been asking everybody who makes lures to do this thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you I have seven different kinds of spinner blades and nobody can explain to me how to use any of them except for the willow the Colorado and the Indiana I'm sitting here going Tomahawk split-tail corkscrew smiley propeller Serpentine and oh yeah the gang Spinners like -3 on 4 I believe it's called a spinner with a trailer no that would be a spoon with a spinner sorry and it's one two or three Spinners on a spoon but I did figure out the double Indiana is for ice fishing and I believe there is also a wobble disc it's like a ChatterBait except that it starts immediately and is good for ice fishing or reeling. Anyways I really want to know because I got all grandpa's tackle but no instructions so I'm getting instructions for what they will show on KZbin but I would like to watch to see how some of the other stuff that is built and it works and no I'm sorry I'm actually giving names to a lot of those things because I can find absolutely nothing about most of the metal plates that I have in the tackle box. So I'm asking you because you're the first state maker that is actually using metal plate.
