I really enjoy watching you flying videos Juan. I trained in an Aeronca Champ and owned a heavy ultralight (now called Light Sport Aircraft) called a MiniMax. Fabric on spruce, Rotax powered, shoulder wing taildragger with flaperons. I did power offs and stalls (at 30mph IAS clean) most every flight for fun. I miss that, but we all reach a time when being PIC is no longer smart. Your vids bring it back for me. Thanks : )

Juan, I learned to fly at a small airport with a very short runway. Approach over tree tops, land in the grass and roll onto the paved strip. Didn't release the Cessna 150's brakes for take off until the engine was at max power. Lifted off just before the end of the runway. The instructor was experienced and a great pilot.

My first landing as a new student was "Dead Stick"... My instructor taught me this from day one and Thats about all I do now... as I look back at those days ( 1978-80 ). Still fly and try to fit in a landing or two Power Off as much as possible. Great Video.

Juan, Tidbit of info. In my 1948 8E/F, C-90. At 9500 ft. at night, inbound to LasVegas I had a Cylinder through-bolt brake and the Cylinder came loose banging against the case. I put it down on the Hwy. next to Whiskey Pet's Casino. I was able to get her stopped in a couple of hundred ft. no damage by just luck. What I never thought about was I had to unscrew the side window stop latch and land with my head out the window due to oil completely covering the windshield. Still, love that Luscombe.

speed management is the key.. as is knowing your airplane.. as Juan points out here.the luscombe is pretty slick, so slips and even some rudder waggling like the old carrier pilots used to use to kill speed are your aces in the hole.. but staying ahead of the bird, and making the plane do exactly what you want it to.. take skill only obtained through practice, and only maintained through more practice. A stabilized approach begins long before you've made your first turn..

WELL....My first flight lesson ('78) was a "this is how we land" Dead stick landing........... still do that today,......... Have to give Mike Rust a big Thank You for teaching me that from day one............. it took a few years ( 40 ) to see why he did that but now I sure do !

enjoy your videos very much. I like the detailed advice you give. I am not a pilot but an avid enthusiast. I was air controller in Navy years ago... so I feel part of the flying family. it was distracting to try to filter out the music and just enjoy your flight. thanks for sharing.

In the early 70' I learned to fly at N34 Turner field Horsham Pa, now a housing development. Had a 2100' hard surface and a grass cross runway. We learned and practiced power off landings, when High Forward Slip a little, when Low dive into ground effect, increase your airspeed to say 90 Kts, float in on ground effect, it will get you another hundred yards or so...

Who is your young co-pilot? He's little cutie! I wonder how the others who do this type of filming "pipe" their audio thru / from their headsets into the GoPro? Might be worth looking into. Couldn't much hear what you were saying so the onscreen text was a great addition. Wish I had gotten into this back in the late 70's when I had a chance. My brother owned several different small craft including a Cessna 170 Tail Dragger. He also was in partnership with a Steerman - but this was a long time back. Keep on a-flying and reporting. Love your work.

When I took my discovery flight, the CFI asked me what are my 3 goals if I choose to earn my pilots certificate. One of my answers was “ not to end up on the blancolirio channel as an accident report. He looked at me and smiled and said if you keep your head on your shoulders you’ll be fine.

enjoyed your last comment about the approaches of most pilots who come in like maniacs and you wonder what the heck are they doing? well hopefully they are learning and realize that until they do they should not attempt to go to johnson creek idaho or some similar place until their skills are far better. i have to start my luscombe BEFORE i get inside, yes it's an A model and i'm jealous of all that room you have behind the seat! mine is occupied by fuel as you know. you also probably know why mine is placarded "use carb heat for takeoff". took me longer to find out than i care to admit since i've had the airplane since before the internet was what it is today, which is not really that long ago when you are my age! just saying it was not that easy to find information as it is now. also believe emergency no power landing skills should be practiced regularly, almost every one of my approaches in any single engine trainer is power off unless there is some reason to use power. here is a skill most pilots never practice and hence almost always fail on flight reviews and training. engine failure at 3000 feet or more agl with a 3000 foot or longer paved public runway right beneath you on a beautiful clear day. when i describe this maneuver and ask the victim if they can get it on the runway with no power they look at me like i'm crazy and say how could i fail if the runway is beneath me. then we get in the plane which is where i almost always get the last laugh when they have to add power to get to the runway! no one realizes how difficult this is without a plan. they appreciate what they have learned though when we are through. my instructor for my CFI rating was an old navy pilot who taught me this maneuver and i have taught it to hundreds of pilots since i believe it is one of the most important things to know. anyway Juan just wanted you to know that you are my favorite aviation content creator on here and i will miss your videos if you ever quit so don't even think about it!

No. I still have not stuck my toes in the water. I flew Radio control for years an d stopped. I kinda had an epiphany. Why bother with these ( unless you love building) if you can get into a real aircraft for not much more than some new motorcycles. At first I was thinking Fly Baby (they even make a bipe, cool) but stumbled onto Lubscomes, Aluminum, classic looks, fits in to the sport licence. Too good to be true. Real planes have tail wheels. Someone was even smart enough to put a radial on one. Too good to be true. Now I need to arrange the finances. It's gonna happen.

As a 20 year owner of a 1947 8E (and channel subscriber), may I strongly suggest re-editing with voice-over narration if this hasn't already been reshot with clear audio? This is valuable information; listening, though, is a chore.

My question is all that stick movement really necessary on landing ?? I bet you could land with 75% less wiggle on the stick !! Next flight be conscious of all that stick movement and I bet you can eliminate most of it .Usually it's not necessary . You are working way too hard !!!!!
