Love the bass guitar, and the depressed jingly, jangly guitar sound that is similar in the Pixies, The Cure and Bauhaus. Such a distinct hallmark of the late 80's early 90's.
@Sam-go3mb3 жыл бұрын
Weird how 2010's indie brought back the jangle but dropped the depression. (generally speaking)
@ryanporter18193 жыл бұрын
@@Sam-go3mb Right! I guess depression was the wrong word. More like a melancholy message. This particular song has a daydreaming component one could get lost in. Either way, you are right, songs these days kind of lack that touch. Cheers to Lush!

@@ryanporter1819 Nah I get what you meant totally. There was something really....raw about the 90's sentiment; it was as if that generation knew something important was coming to an end...I'm not even quite sure what that something is, but I feel it.

the album was produced by robin guthrie of cocteau twins so it makes sense that it sounds like that.

Yes. When I listen to the guitar breaks- jingly, jangly, or clangy- I immediately hear The Sisters Of Mercy on their album: "First, Last, and Always." This cut of Lush "For Love" especially has a guitar break very much in common in terms of texture, chord changes, and harmonics with the Sisters of Mercy from that period (as do many of theirs.) Like a lot of things, there had to have been cross-band influence of what each was producing and listening to. It's a beautiful and very influential sound. For those possibly unfamiliar, treat yourself to the entire S.O.M. album I'm referring to available in whole here on the tube. And I'm in no way saying one band copied another, just to say there was a "sound" going around during that period, a beautiful, irresistible style that guitarists no doubt heard and were influenced by and which made their way into their compositions.

I look in your eyes and see myself But there's no connection, Just his own reflection Isn't this the way you wanted me? (What do you mean?) In love with you (What do I feel?) Do anything (What do you mean?) For you She looked in his eyes to lose herself And when it falls apart, she cries Doesn't think to look inside She just covers up her eyes Doesn't see her own disguise And though she feels this sorrow, It will fade tomorrow She'll pretend that this was really love (What do you mean?) She'll make their fall (What did I feel?) Seem beautiful (What do you mean?) She won't remember this at all (What do you mean?) She won't recall (What did I feel?) I love the beautiful cherry red Rickenbacker 340/12 that Miki plays in this. She didn't play it too often; usually she played a Gibson ES335-12 or Epiphone Riviera 12. I have a Rickenbacker 330/12, and it is my favorite guitar.
@deaddoll13612 жыл бұрын
I have a 330/12 too. I think I read the Ric got stolen, the Gibson suffered two headstock breaks (surprise, surprise) and the Epiphone was one of a limited Gibson custom shop release in the early 90s. In Piroshka she plays a Fender Strat XII and I read she thought the neck was a bit wide, saying guitar manufacturers don't accommodate female's smaller hands enough. I thought that'd never be a criticism that could be levelled at Ric 12 strings, but ironically she said at the time she thought the Ric neck was too narrow. I tend to agree in both areas, despite the possible contradiction. I love my Mustang's narrow neck, but fitting 12 strings on virtually the same width is a bit squeezy.
