I can still remember my first introduction to Lush, via the radio... KNDD-FM out of Seattle, in the late summer of '91. I played the heck out of my cassette copies in college in the early '90s, and the same for my CD copies of their albums at Uni in the mid-'90s. 33 years later, and despite sadly never having seen them perform live, I'm still as big of a fan as ever. I did manage to get myself one of the Origami LP box sets, back when they briefly reformed in 2016. I missed out on seeing them on that tour when they came through Seattle, as I just wasn't in any position to indulge in other luxuries like concerts at the time. "Would've, could've, should've..."

Chris was such an inventive rhythmic drummer. A gone too soon tragedy 😢

Just discovered this band -- 30 years after I should have had them on my radar. Fantastic. Love Miki!

Terrific band Lush, and awww those were the days, fans right up to the front of the stage. These barriers nowadays piss me off.

Thank you! I miss those days as well; I would stand right up against the stage, so I could see the distortion pedals they used, haha. My did pay the price, though...

its pretty clear from their interviews that they hadn't yet really figured out what made them so good.

I loved them in 1989 but I wasn't aware of the debt they owed to MBV.

More influenced by early Cocteau Twins. Robin Guthrie of the Cocteau Twins produced their first album.

@@arthurgerber When I first heard Lush on college radio, I had yet to hear My Bloody Valentine. So me they are the legends, although Cocteau Twins are certainly owed a huge debt of gratitude for being amazing.

They weren't influenced by MBV as much as the Cocteaus, Throwing Muses, ABBA, 60s pop, House of Love etc.

If you read Miki's book which is brilliant btw it talks of the pre Lush period when Emma was going out with one of MBV. I forget which one.
@Hastur876 Жыл бұрын
@@lolgrant I've just been reading Miki's book. Emma was dating Kev in 1987, believe it or not. And she was working for Creation's publicist at that time too.
