With bow prices spiraling out of control, and performance hitting a plateau, there's a lot of room in the market for truly affordable bows. In the next few years I expect to see some really impressive bows of Chinese origin in the sub $500 range. The only American company that seems interested in taking that price point seriously is Bear.

I’ve been shooting last year’s Salinda Dragon for about a year now (wife got it for me as a Christmas present). The positive is that it got me into archery in a big way. I’ve been saving up and plan on purchasing a flagship as soon as PSE unveils their aluminum models for 2022 and I can shoot all four brands that I’m interested in. The biggest negative is consistency. Nothing stays tight on this bow. I double check every bolt before I shoot but I’ve had the cable guard come loose and almost pop out on me. I’ve had my sight come loose multiple times (even with bow wax on the bolts to secure it better). The cam bolts also come loose (even after the shop professionally tuned it for me and tightened everything down). As a beginning archer there is nothing more frustrating than trying to work on your form and then having fliers show up and not knowing if it’s you or if something has come loose, yet again, on your bow. With that said you are absolutely right that this is a great way to find out if the sport is for you. If you catch the bug be prepared to upgrade as quickly as your personal circumstances allow. This bow will have a second life in my household as I will be repurposing it for my 13 year old daughter who has expressed an interest in learning more about archery (she did an archery unit at school and enjoyed it).
@LuskArcheryAdventures
@LuskArcheryAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing that experience. Just a tip, you can use locktite on any bolts to make sure they stay snug...that's recommended for any bow.
@Clashed12
@Clashed12 3 жыл бұрын
@@LuskArcheryAdventures I wanted to keep it as wax to be able to make adjustments. My understanding is that locktite can sometimes make it harder to back out bolts and, to be honest, I assumed the metal used for the bolts would be soft enough (China) that I would risk stripping. One more note is that I was told by Salinda that they made a number of improvements in terms of build quality from last years model to this years, so those issues may have been corrected in the bow that you were shooting. Shame that they don’t change up the name year to year so you know what year’s model you are shooting.
@r1sabotage

I’ve purchased flagship bows and parts that’s not locktite fly off also. If you can’t get that bow to shoot well, a flagship will not make things better.

@@Clashed12 New to bows but not Loctite. Been wrenching on motorcycles, guns, and all sorts of mechanical things for many many years and use Loctite on most metal on metal fasteners. AVOID red unless you want it to be permanent. But blue and purple (for really small fasteners) works very well. It doesn't make the fastener difficult to remove at all. But it DOES keep it where you want it until you want to remove it. I literally use it on most every bolt/nut just as added security.

This was my very first bow when I started shooting a compound bow about 18 months ago. While it is decent for a starter bow, I found that I quickly outgrew the bow. The bow is somewhat loud for a hunting situation and adjusting the basic sight can be a pain. I found it wasn't very consistent. It's also hard to find tech support at your local archery shop. That's something to consider. Ultimately, I transitioned to a used Bowtech SWAT and never looked back. That is something I would recommend to new archers wishing to save a few dollars. Look at used bows. Frequently, your local shop will have some. I got my son a used Mission by Matthews and that bow is really well made and is highly adjustable. It's something a youth or adult could shoot. Now if you're looking to do competitive barebow target shooting, I would recommend Sanlida. They make some nice target archery bows.

I've owned one roughly 2 years now. While I agree that it's hard to get help at a local bow shop for these, at least in my area, due to their unwillingness to mess with a bow they're not familiar with, it's actually forced me to learn how to tune a bow myself. I bought one of the DIY bowmaster bow presses to help with fixing cam timing. I've also added basic upgrades to the bow to make it better. Brand new sight, new stabilizer, new arrow rest, and new wrist sling for example. I bought my own quiver also. I bought my x8 before they offered the package deal they offer now. Granted there's obviously better quality options out there, I have zero issues with the bow after the upgrades. I group my shots pretty well with field tips and broadheads. 29 1/2 inch draw length and tension maxed out. No way to measure my own draw weight.

If you continue the Budget Bow review series please consider the Barnett Vortex Hunter. I bought one in 2015 to get into archery, about a year later I bought a used Hoyt, fast forward to 2021 and I have 2 Hoyt bows and a Mathews so it helped set the hook in me to start bow hunting. Now I use the Barnett bow for bow fishing and it has taken alot of abuse and is still going strong. The entry fee to archery is what steers alot of people away from it, I think that we need to encourage people who show an interest in it to definitely start with budget priced equipment and work their way up to more pricey stuff if the shoe fits so to speak. Great video, I subbed.

I'm a Bear owner and long term shooter (bowhunter) but recently about a year ago I decided to try one of these Sanlida's. Essentially because an equivalent Bear (still made in China I believe or at least parts are, maybe assembled stateside??) was of no better spec but a lot more costlier, ok maybe it had a better string? Anyway after shooting this Sanlida, I couldn't fault it for what I paid for it. I mean it shoots just fine. Ok it's cheaper because the limb bolts are tapped into the riser and not into a threaded insert i the riser and of course the riser is cast (so what?-I've never heard of anyone breaking their riser because it was cast rather than milled out of block of Al). Anyway yeah I've reviewed it many times on the channel because I thought for the goulash it was worth it. I hear a lot of talk about not buying Chinese made bows but I laugh my guts out because many US brands are getting stuff MIC LOL. One last thing, the axels are on bearings, not bushes, this is a plus for me.

Wonder if you can find a bow shop that would work on it if needed. These bows are a big deal in Australia because there's few shops and the huge distances between towns there. Broke college guy- save your $ and look hard for a used bow made in America. Now is the time because hunting season is winding down and most companies are releasing their new line for 2022. And if at all possible shoot the actual bow you're buying.

I don't know if you'll see this on an old video, but I think it would be worth pulling this bow out of storage and shooting it again. I have the same bow but under a different brand name. Shot it last season. Got it out today to start shooting it again in preparation for this season. I had the same experience last year while setting it up. Split three arrows with it! I was very impressed until now. The limbs appear to have lost a lot of poundage! I will not be using it anymore. I only write this to you because I know you wouldn't want to lead your viewers astray with a subpar product. Maybe with mine being under a different name brand it may use different limbs, but I do not think that is the case. I learned my lesson and will be sticking with the big names from now own (PSE, Bowtech, Bear, etc.)

Did they send you the 60# max bow by mistake? I bought their 70# max one and lowered it to 27". I was able to bring the poundage back up to 70# at 27" by twisting up the cables. I've only had this bow for 3 weeks playing with it and finding quirks with it. And boy, did I find some! Quirk #1 - Limb bolts tend to back out as you shoot it. I had mine bottomed out to max weight and in the 100 shots I put through it initially, the limb bolts backed out a quarter turn. I marked the limb bolts with a silver Sharpie. Quirk #2 - This bow doesn't like cable-driven dropaway rests. The extra pressure on the buss cable throws off the synchronization of the cams and will cause nock high tears through paper, thus forcing you to set the nock low on the bowstring below the berger hole. A premium bow that had this same quirk was the Elite GT500. Quirk #3 - The drawlength modules have too much free-play and does not have a solid axis on which it can consistently rotate and set up equally at both cams. One module could be off by 1/32" from the other one because of the loose tolerances, and you would suddenly have a 1/4" gap on the drawstop from the other at full draw.

@LuskArcheryAdventures Жыл бұрын
I do think I got the 70 # model. I really appreciate you sharing this experience. I really wouldn’t expect this bow to be able to handle much tweaking, to be honest. But for beginners or occasional shooters, it seems to work well. I gave mine to a buddy and he’s really enjoyed it.

@@LuskArcheryAdventures yeah, I'm going to give mine away, too, to a beginner. Funny thing is, I set one up at 29" for someone I recommended this bow to, and it shot a perfect bullethole with a whisker biscuit (not the hostage rest it came with). Oh, and another quirk I found is the bottom of the main buss cable and the bottom yokes of the other buss (control) cable (at the bottom cam) makes significant contact with each other at full draw and actually pushes into each other.

I've got two mates in Australia and a mate in Serbia that use this companies Bows. One the target archers at my club in London turns in good results in tournaments with their target bow. You buy descent arrows. Sharp fixed blade head and you're good to go. Be good video if you killed a small pig, doe or Turkey with ir.

Incredible price for what it is and what it includes. As a starter bow, I don't know that it can be beat for that price. I've had a few compound bows over the years. My last I bought in 1994. I bought a PSE Nova 45-70lb or 45-65lb compound that was packaged with a 4 pin sight, arrow rest (The old 2 prong) and a cable guard (yes that was an option on bows back then) at Gander Mountain on super sale for $149.99. Even back then it could hit 225 fps with a 31 1/2'' Beman carbon fiber arrow and a 125 gr broadhead. That was a killer bargain back then and it lasted me without fail (I did replace the string of course and updated all the accessories) for 19 years before my shoulder could no longer take 60lbs of pull and I had to go to a crossbow. I fired that bow thousands of times. So, even budget bows, if made by a reputable company, and taken care of, can last a very long time.

Great starter bows. They shoot as good as your form. I killed a nice muley with one like it, 44yds uphill through the heart. Great pack bow for those days when you dont want to take your main rig in nasty conditions. Quiver is a piece of junk. The adjustment bolts need to be kept tight. Trash the arrows. Near this price point I suggest a PSE Stinger X.

You killed that pig with that bow? Outstanding. Boars are such pigs. Or is it pigs are such a bore? Whatever. More dead pigs is more good. Thank you for the video and for highlighting & explaining the difference in velocity from specifications & your results. "Speed is just a matter of money. How fast do you want to go?" I guess I want to go $1000 fast, but only spend $200 on the go-fast gear.

imho, the phrase 'entry level bow' doesn't even make any sense; any bow that puts an arrow into and/or through a target and/or animal is a proper weapon/tool/sporting_gear.. the Elite Ember and this Sanlida DragonX8 are both superb compounds with budget price tags, there is no need for thousand dollar compounds that does the same thing.. juz my 2cents.. 😉

Hello. This is the first time I comment on your channel but I watch your videos for some time. First of all, this video made me decide to buy this bow because as you said, I wanted to see if I like to shoot a bow as a hobby (in Romania bow hunting is illegal). And it's exactly as you say, I saw how it is, I like it and in the future I will buy a Bowtech or other brand that gives something more high end. So thank you for your videos that helps a lot of people decide on broadheads or bows. By the way, Joe Rogan watches your channel (you can see a segment of that on the Tooth of the arrow channel where he was talking about their broadheads and he talks about your testing kzbin.info/www/bejne/nISWm4OimqiIe8k - maybe you will make a video about that). Best regards from Romania

Finn, it will certainly kill more than those smaller animals. Even at 27" and 60 lbs, I am generating 45 ft lbs of KE. With every inch increase in draw length, this bow also allows for an increase of draw weight, so that KE will only increase more and more.

Well, all of our budgets vary so much, that is true. But I am not using my budget as any sort of perspective in the matter.
