To me it looks like what they go for is ordinary people singing and being together. It's down to earth and seems to be about community togetherness and joy, rather than showing off. To me the spirit of it is that no one puts on a false voice, everyone can sing as they do naturally and together they make something beautiful. I wish events like this were more common, with a wholesome, family friendly atmosphere of friendship and fun. I don't speak German or know the history of this song, but this is what I gather from here.
