Mariah's and Luther's tones are very, very similar - butter-smooth, incredibly rich texture , it's almost like they are the female/male version of the same voice in terms of tone while Mariah's voice is also very explosive, of course.

Talking about Luther's warm, and yet intense vocals, it's no news for anyone, sure that, but the way he delivers his notes/ad libs it's really facinating, SPECIALLY when his singing a duet! I saw a couple of years a duet between the late James Ingram and the amazing Tamia! They sang How Do You Keep The Music Playing, and at the end of the song they did this kind of back and forth response to one another, and there's a point they're doing crazy high notes and James respond, singing: "that's how we do it, baby! You sing to me, i sing to you, we sing together, baby"...! And although it's a kind of silly premise, cause you know that in a duet there's two people singing, but the question is: "they're singing to each other, or to themselves"? I mean, you're really hearing how your partner is singing, his/hers intonations, volume, feeling on the song, or you don't give a damn and want to sing only your parts of the song, and don't connect with your partner and the song? And i think that's the real beauty of a duet: you sing TO your partner, vibrating the same energy! If it's soft, go soft, if it's big, than go big, but ALWAYS within the energy your partner is giving AND the melody of the song! And i think Luther does that masterfully!

I remember I was in the 8th Grade when the original version of this song came out. Early in the morning while on the school bus on the way to school, all the upper class girls on the bus would be singing this song because they played music on the bus to keep the kids from getting stupid with each other. Great memories and I'll say that this cover is on par with Lionel Ritchie and Diane Ross.
