It's a song about heartbreak and rejection, you know? Both are extraordinarily talented, but the song just fits Karen Carpenter like a glove. Her voice, and melancholy delivery is just made for songs like this, and dare I say even her persona? Luther's version in the end has a more beautiful feel to it, Karen exudes the pain the song conveys sharper (though the arrangement of her version's chorus throws that off with the almost happy sounding brass section). Which version did you first? Oftentimes this determines which one we prefer...

My Mommy had this album and played the ish out of it , she soo loved LV …I was 4/ 5 at the time and I was such in aww of this man’s voice. It became one of my favorite songs by him.
