Dude. Don't be overly dramatic and ridiculous. Mariah Carey's debut album came out in 1990 - 4 years earlier. She was already a huge star. It was a collaboration on eye-level at minimum. One could even argue that Vandross refreshed himself with this collab. He was 43 and she 25. Nobody introduced her to the world in 1994 - she did that herself in 1990 already. She entirely wrote the album together with Ben Margulies and was even a co-producer, which is - to this day - very unusual for a 19 year old. She was already a HUGE superstar in 94. She had already written and published 3 albums that (in '94) had sold 48 million times. Vandross sold in his entire lifetime 25 Million. So calm down with the pathos. lol

Mariah is really respectful when she is with someone on a stage she would never overshadow Luther at his concert, she deeply respected Luther, her microphone is also lowered a semitone from his for this reason. But I noticed that instead if she is at one of her concerts then the music changes, and sings normally without holding back, aside from when he was with Michael Bolton at his concerts, totally outsing him without even trying, but I think she wanted to get noticed there, and her voice was so big that it would have been impossible not to overshadow Michael.
