these penalties are gonna play on osho's mind, the one against coventry was pretty bad but this one was unlucky

Its incredibly frustrating with these penalties that Luton keep giving away, slightly less frustrating we didn't score because there were opportunities. So many points lost to penalties this season.

A lot of positives to take away from yesterday's game, but we do need to be converting our chances. Teams like Burnley set the bench-mark for where we want to be, and its clear that we have come a long way even in the last few months. We are by far a better team than we were in May, but we still have a little way to go. 39 goals scored from 32 games says a great deal. We need to be hitting the target. Once we get that right then an automatic promotion place shouldn't be out of reach.

I can just imagine that referee sitting down with his Sunday Telegraph this morning, saying to his wife how he had the nerve to send a key player off yesterday in front of the home crowd for saying a naughty word, and she says, Yes dear that must have been difficult, and then they listen to The Archers and he orders some hair restorer online and then they go for a walk in the park and their labrador shits everywhere and he doesn't pick it up and then they have dinner and a nap and everything's all right in Establishment village.

To all you Luton fans complaining about the penalty, clipped ball was on its way to an unmarked Barnes, defender's arm deflected it the opposite way. Doesn't matter if it was accidental or or not, doesn't matter if it was "ball to hand" or "hand to ball", the rules are clear. Listen to your own manager 24 seconds into this post match interview "yeah it's a pen", no hesitation. Unlucky one to concede, especially so late in the game, but they do happen. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKDFpGmniZqkbbM
@thomasgray5406 Жыл бұрын
David Taylor Yes, I agree it's a pen and II don't dispute even the red card, it was the plethora of abysmal refereeing decisions earlier in the game against Luton and Jeremy Simpleton's inability to oversee anything properly (throw ins repeatedly taken, restarts repeatedly taken, free kicks taken twenty yards from the correct place, giving the wrong team the ball following an injury etc.....and he did this for both sides to be honest); there really is no foul by Adebayo when Morris netted in the first half,. Then there's theres the inconsistency, awful dive by Tella to try to get a penalty (by all means look at the replays) , he then spends an age berating and arguing with Simpleton but doesn't get booked yet Lockyer was carded immediately at the first sign of dissent. Some of the fouls he gave against Morris and Adebayo were ridiculous. Simpleton, incidentally, is reportedly :a Burnley supporter and came up through the North and West Lancashire leagues. He has a truly awful reputation, here's what Ince had to say about him when Reading played Burnley: www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.newschainonline.com/sport/mens-sport/football/paul-ince-says-referee-was-absolutely-total-joke-after-reading-lose-at-burnley-301207&ved=2ahUKEwjbxq6VjaH9AhWnQkEAHb1TDDAQFnoECCMQAQ&usg=AOvVaw2kJJNCyPn0NKFlQPINp1YH. .Steve Cooper, Scott Parker and Bielsa have requested his removal in recent seasons. Fans of several clubs have signed petitions demanding his removal: www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/rivals-fans-follow-leeds-united-17386197 . Biased or just useless, I think by any stretch, Simpleton should have been banned years ago.

That's great, Barnes was standing in an offside position so you've cleared up that debate 👍
@davidtaylor134 Жыл бұрын
@@markfrancome8593 You must be looking just at the closeup shot, where using a transparent ruler on the screen parallel to the 6 yard line Barnes looks dead level with the defender to his right (left of him on the the screen), but you can't be sure within a toe or two without a straight line view. But back off to the wider view at 1:17-1:18 and freeze it as Vitinho (22) makes contact with the ball to clip it in Barnes direction. Again using a transparent ruler to extend the 6 yard line the Luton defender to the far right of the screen is level with that 6 yard line, whereas Barnes is well clear of that line by at least a yard or so. Ergo, Barnes was played onside by that defender, who was well out of the play. VAR would have drawn the lines and reached the same conclusion. The penalty was the correct decision by the ref and the linesman.

@@davidtaylor134 I was at the game and had a clear view of the incident, hence my comment. No need for transparent rulers.

@@thomasgray5406 Thomas - Thanks for the measured and informative reply. I didn't know the history of this ref Simpson, nor how he apparently angered the Reading and Leeds fans with some of his decisions. The Maatsen clear foul in the penalty area against Ince in the Reading game after Maatsen lost the ball should have been given, but that doesn't mean Reading would have won the game, there was time for Burnley to get one or even two goals. Manager Ince can complain all he likes, but after they got the first goal, Reading started blatant time wasting for the last 45 minutes, and maybe Ince should have been encouraging his players to go get another goal. I agree Simpson had a poor and inconsistent game in this one, and frustratingly both got a lot of calls wrong and failed to call other similar fouls. In the end though, Luton got called for 14 fouls and Burnley for 11 which is pretty even, with one yellow card for each side, not counting the 2 that Lockyer got for arguing both before and after the penalty. I agree that Tella going down too easily was not a penalty, but I don't think that was a yellow card offense. There's a difference between arguing for a non-penalty, and berating the ref to try and nullify a clear penalty. Lockyer and the other protesting Luton players should have left it alone once it was clear the ref wasn't changing his correct ruling. Then Lockyer got himself tossed for continuing to berate the ref afterwards. What did he think he was going to achieve? Nullify the goal and give Luton a free kick?

The more of these you see, the more you think there is something going on. Luton have had at least half a dozen like this that the ref doesn't "see". Clear, glaring errors. We had a 2-2 draw with Coventry where the ball was heading in the bottom corner and a Coventry defender dived across and did a double-fisted save to push the ball around the post. Ref was less than 10 yards away and waved play-on.
