Luton Town v Plymouth Argyle 1969-70.

Argyle won 2-0 at Kenilworth Road thanks to goals from Derek Rickard and Mike Bickle. This was Argyle's first-ever appearance on Match of the Day. With grateful thanks to Martin Clamp, who turned in a wonderful performance in the Argyle goal that day, for supplying the film. Please enjoy a slice of history from over 50 years ago.

Mike Bickle was an old friend... I even went on the bus to home games with him to the Golden Hind and walk the last mile or so to Home Park, he in the players entrance and I in the ground. On the Whitleigh estate earlier during kick-abouts we learned never to give Mike the ball... we'd never get it back!

Back then,I was a ten years old lad playing marbles in a small town in Yugoslavia,not even knowing football was played in England.And here I am,52 yrs. later watching a great game thanks to a very good friend of mine.Even if we had never personally met,the player of the game would still have to be the same:Martin Clamp.

Loved Argyle's Home AND Away shirts then-the ones they have now are so dark -when it rains-they look Black!!! Awful!
