I wish they would have mentioned the schools that require uniforms. Also about hair dye too because the school I went to you weren't allowed to dye your hair bright colors and you'd get sent to the principals office. Also every school by state is different, some school give more freedom while others don't it just depends on where you live.

Same. We had to wear uniforms but they didn’t all look the exact same. We had things like color options except purple and green. They had to be button up. And we were only allowed to dress down on Fridays, Halloween, debate tournaments, and dress up for picture day. We also had spirit wear week were we wear clothes that apply to the theme of that specific week. Our school also had the rule where if shorts or skirts don’t go beyond your fingertips, then you’d be sent to the nurse to change into other uniforms. But that was in middle school, elementary and lower. Now in high school they let us wear what we want as long as it applies to the dress code. And I live in KC

not even by state, even by county. The school next door could be completely different, with more rules, uniforms, etc. or be very lax and chill, with a lot less rules and more freedom, or the school next to that could put all of it's emphasis on games, like football, with the whole school's theme being football and always having games and constantly uptalking and encouraging sports. I went to a lot of different public schools in the same state, so i got to experience the differences by county. It's very odd. I think, in the end, the theme and rules of a school all depends on the principal and the history of the school.

since schools are different in america here's what mine was like: Woke up at 6 am and school started at 7:30 but you had to be in class at 7:25 for the attendance period, but class did not actually start until 7:30am. We had like uH 8 -9 classes a day?? hard to remember that one but yeah 4 classes were for the core required stuff like English/literature, science, math, and history then the other 2-3 classes were electives which could be basically anything.... there were required electives that had to be done by the time you graduated like a gym/physical education class, an art class, a music class, etc. Just 1 of each. After doing those, you could choose what ever else you wanted. Also these elective classes changed every semester so you could have different electives for the other half of the year. I don't remember what all the electives were since I mainly did the art ones because I am an artist but I'll name a few (My school was very art and music centered, but had pretty much an equal balance between art and sports) : Art electives; (all of these classes were in levels like 1,2,3,4 etc.) Ceramics 1, 2, and 3 drawing 1,2 and 3, painting 1, 2, and 3 digital design 1,2, and 3(mostly photoshop basics and otther digital art programs) photography 1, 2, and 3 Gym electives: Yoga 1 and 2 Strength training 1 and 2 Health 1 and 2 (this is nutrition and sexual education etc.) Music: Choir (consists of the all girls choir, mixed choir, the one that dances while singing (forgot the name) and all the advanced choirs) orchestra band/marching band (this also had an after school club) there was also a study hall elective for if you wanted more time to do homework for classes during school hours. I don't remember what else they had but there were a bunch of english, math, history, and science electives too. Also for people that had after school clubs, they usually ended at 5 or 6 pm but school let out at 2:30 pm for everyone else. I was in art club and got out at 4:30 pm on club days. American schools are definitely all different in terms of what time they start and end but basic core stuff and testing is the same. Mmmm gotta love standardized testing and exams. Those were not fun for me. For phone usage: really dependent on what type of teacher you had, like during study times we were able to listen to music and text (Not constantly texting but like a little bit) but we couldn't be on our phones during lectures. Some teachers even had phone bins, I didn't have any of those teachers though. Also during testing phones have to be off and put into your bag or something, couldn't be on the desk or in your pocket.

no hate, but what's the difference between predominantly white and predominantly black school? I go to a really big school that has a lot of different races and ethnicities(mostly white, Asian, Hispanic, and mixed kids tho, but there's still a good amount of black people), and I just thought they were all the same. So like how r they similar or different based on the vlog you watched. If u don't want to answer thats ok, but I'm just curious since I've never known what it's like.
@YahYahPlugz4 жыл бұрын
Maya Cajchun The experience in general is different. I’ve always went to predominantly black schools. There were only about 5-7 kids who weren’t black, so not that many. When I watch predominantly white school vlogs it doesn’t correlate with my experience. Its the little stuff in the videos where you don’t notice, because it may never cross your mind as in “oh that’s different”. Such as, roast sessions, freestyle rapping and dancing, hallway football/sports, random loud singing in classes, the boys constantly slap boxing, the dialects, the urban slang. It’s the little stuff that doesn’t contributes in predominantly white school “life”. It may seem little but it’s very noticeable when you are use to a certain way of living and thinking. That’s why I said the experience is different from POV.

@YahYahPlugz4 жыл бұрын
Psycho Babes That’s absolutely a very far-fetched theory. Like I said my whole life I’ve only went to predominantly black schools and the rest of the percentage were either Asian or White kids. Those kids would seemingly hangout together with themselves. As if the rest of the school didn’t fit their scene. Of course at least 1-2 would fit in. But, many of them would subjectively exclude themselves.

It does seem really odd to me that Korean students may be at school so late, just from a safety standpoint. But I think in terms of studying/extracurricular activities, it's not necessarily so different from the time American students spend. Especially students in AP courses or on sports teams in America can spend hours and hours studying or practicing. So a student might get home at 6 pm (after practice or a club meeting), get something to eat, then study until midnight or later. I knew many students who did this, and many who were in multiple clubs, on sports teams, and in CP/AP courses. Even students not in clubs or sports teams would have part time jobs or have to watch their younger siblings. We really do put quite a lot of pressure on our students, especially high school students :-/

I am from Finland and here the lenght of school days depends your schedule. I am currently in high school which means that school year is divided into five periods, each with a different schedule. This means that my days can be from 9 to 2pm or for example today I had school from 8 to 5pm. Fun fact: In high school we can make our own schedules but there is certain rules that what subjects we need to choose for example during high school time you are required to complete at least 12 courses in math. In the spring and fall I go to school by bike ( 10 km) and in Winters I use buses. How do you go to school in your country? Sorry for my English.
@-ailyanne-70894 жыл бұрын
I live in the Philippines, and in most public and private schools, we have a school ‘bus’ but our parents usually call it ‘school service’ since thats what is written on the side. The bus is also technically a van that’s painted yellow. In other parts of the city or in the provinces, we take tricycles. Now, it’s not the tricycles americans know of. A tricycle in the philippine is a motorcycle that has a compartment in the side. It’s not one of those American motorcycles either though, because our compartment has a roof and all. Tricycles vary across the country. Some students (mostly college) also take Jeeps. Again, these aren’t American Jeeps, Philippine Jeepneys are based on American Jeeps, but they have no doors and are painted with bright colors. You can search these up if you want. :)

I'm from Hong Kong, and I think the thing that differentiate us from others is that we don't separate middle school and high school. So it's like six year of primary school, six year of secondary school and four year of university. But we do have junior year and senior year, For junior year we basically study all kinds of stuff like science, arts, music and languages, tho in senior year you got to choose three electives from all areas other from core subject( Chinese, English, Maths and liberal studies). For me, I usually go to school by bus or train. The transportation system is quite advance, basically you can go to everywhere in hk in just one or two hours. And for study, well, we don't have night study section like Korea, but it's still quite stressful here. Most students go to tutor class after school and we got two exams and countless tests in a year. That's quite an Asian thing I guess.
@Liana-ku1vb4 жыл бұрын
@@blackhole3029 Interesting. In Finland we have six years of primary school aswell. After that we have three year long seconadary school. Then you can go either three year long high school or vocational school (lenght depends on the profession you are studying). After high school or vocational school you can go to university or polytechnic.
@blackhole30294 жыл бұрын
@@Liana-ku1vb ohh, We don’t really have vocational school and polytechnic here, at least for the mainstream. Usually people who go to some technique related programme are those who drop out of school. What’re they about? I’m kinda curious.
@Liana-ku1vb4 жыл бұрын
@@blackhole3029 In vocational school you can study to became engineer, paramedic, interpreter, hairdresser etc. So basically in vocational school you can study yourself a " low-key" proffession that doesn't involve lot of studying but you are able to employ yourself with that profession without more education. But for example if you wanna keep studying after vocational school you can go to polytechnic( I don't know best word to describe it.) Maybe higher vocational school would be better word instead of polytechnic...there is no good English word to describe it. So after a studying to be for example paramedic you can go to HVS( i shorted the word) to became nurse etc. I think there is only fractional difference between university and higher vocational school. But maybe university is even more higher educational institution than HVS for example in university you can study to became doctor, lawyer, psychologist etc. but in HVS you can study to became for example nurse or social worker. Lastly there is kinda line between people who go to vocational school and who go to high school. Usually those who go vocational school were not so good at studying in secondary school but of course there is exeptions for example one have may always wanted to become hairdresser, so she/he go to vocational school for that reason.

british school is like a mix of korean and american lolz, its similar to korean school because we have strict uniform rules, no phones , a limit on piercings and you could only dye your hair natural colours, but its like american schools because you pick your classes, we do them from 9am-3:20pm, and you have classes with different people so friendship groups tend to be pretty big. also ppl had parties but it was only with your friendship group and most the time it'd be outside in a field somewhere because in real life its pretty rare your parents would just go away for the weekend leaving a free house, so we just went outside where there's no neighbours to worry about, we can play music as loud as we want and we're not bothering our parents. this is my experience anyways but it'll most likely be different at other schools.

I'm from Bosnia and Herzegovina and here students are put in classes like in Korea. You basically spend 9 years of middle school with the same people. In my high school the first two years are the same for everyone. By that I mean we all have the same 12 or 13 subjects, I'm not sure myself. We don't get to choose any AP classes. Each class gets a schedule. Each school day starts and ends at a different time. For example sometimes my class starts at 8:50 and ends at 15:40 other times it starts at 11.35 ends at 19:15. The last two years of high school we get to choose something like a major. For example I chose to study natural sciences like biology chemistry and physics. So I'm put again in a class with people who chose the same.

i went to both a public and charter high school and it was soo different. For example I never knew that public schools there were A days and B days. When I was in charter, we did all 8 periods every single day. We were at school at 7:25am - 5pm bc they wanted us to get use to the “9-5” hours and I did soccer and volleyball so i got home almost around 8:30-9. We had uniform and it was the stereotypical catholic school uniform. The girls would roll up their skirt and it wasn’t until our 2nd year that they approved girls wearing khaki bc that uniform was soooo expensive it was ridiculous. Not only that it was a college prep so they were preparing us for college, like debates and writing a 4-8pages paper essay. Let’s say you’re a freshman (9th grade) to become a sophomore (10th grade) and youre just like “i cant wait for summer” well too bad bc all the 10th grade teachers that you do not know yet, give you work over the summer to start off the year. Our summer was short already bc school started like August 19 and it ended the 2nd week of June that following year. So out english teacher would be like “read this book bc when you come back i fenna give you a test about it” Not only that but there was a zero tolerance policy. There were no fighting, no weapons no anything (within school ground) bc it was automatic, youre expelled and that’s how i went to a public. i was expelled for fighting a bully (: Now at public school, we had uniform also but it was “only wear these polo color shirts bc that’s the school colors and brown or navy blue khaki” and it was from 8:30-3:40 and it was 4 classes per day and the school was massive. Senior year, no one care, as long they got enough credit for the recommend diploma, they could leave early like i had a friend who got to school from 10 and was there for 2 classes and left bc he was done for the day. When i transfer the classes were different and that some of the classes i took in the charter school was not “provide” for the state of Texas and not in the recommend diploma and it was really weird for me at least and i did not know JROTC was a thing either and i didnt know we had a cooking class. The high school i went to was ghetto so we had a playground in the high school and from what a senior told me was that back in the day it used to be a day care for some of the children for the high schooler and they cut the fund and gave it to the special ed. we had random search where we had actual police with dogs to sniff out the kids that were selling or had weapons bc we did had a rivalry gang in the school and it wasn’t just within their race but with other race and then u ser the kids that skip playing hand ball by the mechanic/machine shop. My public school experience was a trip i swear but i made some good memories along the way.

Yeah, my highschool is different. School starts at 7:30 AM and ends at 2:30 PM Monday-Friday. People get to school using cars, bikes, buses (public and school buses) and skateboards. However my highschool doesn't require uniforms but we do have clothing rules. Nowadays some kids come to school wearing pajamas and they sometimes bring blankets to nap during the free time in classes because some people really love to nap. A lot of my teachers like to give out free time after every lesson which can last a couple weeks. We don't use lockers often in my school. There are different levels of classes within each grade (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior) so each usually has about three levels. My school has Sped classes for those who need the extra attention and extra help that standard classes just can't help with. My school has sports and other extra curricular activities but a lot of people refuse to join so our school isn't the best with those things. So far it's pretty sad because I am a band member but there aren't enough students to really be a "good band". But it is fun. The most popular sports in my school for females are soccer and volleyball while other sports need more members. Before practice starts I'm able to walk to a corner store with friends and walk back while in band class I get to joke around with the class when we aren't focused or have free time. Since there aren't many students in band, there's more free time. We usually have around 30 students in each class in high schools but mine specifically has less.

Our high school was from 7:25am-2:35pm. We got on the bus at about 4:50am, it was literal hell (especially in winter when you would transfer between three buses and have to stand in the pitch dark in windy, freezing cold). The only good thing was that the school in the neighboring town got out around 3:00pm, so we could all go and watch a matinee movie around that time and no one from that school would be able to get there yet so we would have the theater to ourselves.

Not only do you need to get high test scores and a high GPA, but you also have to be well-rounded in community service, place high (state or national level) in competitions, and excel in extracurriculars. People have a misconception that high school is easy in the U.S. because it’s “free”, but with freedom they expect you to not only have spectacular academics, but be a well-rounded, unique individual.

I like how she mentioned schools vary. From my experience this is how my high school in a small town in SoCal was like I would wake up at 6:45 and I had to be in class by 8am. A typical schedule would have like 6 classes in my school so we would get of at 3:12. Classes consisted of require classes for graduation and electives. We had like many other American schools AP honors and regular classes no IB though. I was involved in extracurriculars so after school I would volunteer anywhere from 1-2 and get home like at 5:30. I was also in sports so we had practice everyday during season for like two hours. When we had games we would leave school like at 1 or 2 and come back home around 6 sometimes later depending on distance. Our dress code was relatively lax though they were big on dress coding for wearing hats with team logos for some reason.

in my old high school in Milton, MA the high school is on the small side with 1200 students and it is a public school, it really sucked how the principal and the school board thought that it was important to spend more money on our american football team the wildcats rather than spending more money on getting us a better civil engineering teacher.

It's true, you know almost everyone when they're also in AP classes 😅 My senior year for the second semester I didn't have a morning class so I could get to school later on certain days. I didn't care about sports at all so never played any aside from the mandatory P.E. classes. I also didn't care about clubs so once school ended, I was out of there but I had so much homework because of my AP classes that I was always up late. I find it interesting when schools let students leave the school for lunch. At mine we were quite literally fenced in so you either ate cafeteria food or took lunch.

Concerning "English" Classes. When we are in grammar school, or "little kid" schools, we learn grammar, spelling, and word usage. When we get to high school, it becomes a literature class, as you should have already learned the basics or reading, writing, and communicating in English. We do, also, have other languages offered in high school. My school offered French, Spanish, German, and Latin for extra languages. my roommate's school offered Japanese and Russian, among the languages. By the way, where we went to school, both were small schools in comparison to other USA high schools. My graduating class was 250 students. Not sure how this compares to a Korean high school. My mother was in a graduating class of 1,000 people. She lived in a huge city, but I live in a small rural town. (She moved after graduating and getting married.)

There is another type of school in the states. I went to an exam school in Boston, MA. Exam schools are know for being a college-prep school and it is considered as public (But some can be considered as almost a private cuz their donation money is on another level of playing field ). We get workloads similar to that of a college students, and the old ways of getting in was to take the ISEE and passed it. One interest facts about exam school is their grades are a whole grade-above other school. IE if you get a B in exam school and transfer to another school. That B you receive is transfer as an A.

Honestly it different for different areas in New York public charter schools your forced to wear uniforms. If anything is like messed up about your uniform or forgetting belt it could cause you to get detention or they send you back home to change. Tattoos aren’t usually given to high school students but for 16 to 18 you need parents consent. Ear pierces are easy to get especially in Claire’s since it’s free. And going to parties could either cause you problems or fulfill your day. And need to have friends to go there which is kinda hard to get depending if your social or not

*Since I go to a Catholic Private School my high school life is different;* I wake up at 5 am, but school starts at 7:15am, but classes don't start till 8:10am. My school does require uniform, but I don't mind it, since somedays they let us wear regular clothes; those days are picked by Student Council. As for hair style, they don't really care. Many dye their hair, many have it short, and many have it long. Our days are separated by school colors; On Purple Days I have 3 classes, and a study hall, and on Gold Days, I have 4 classes, with no study hall. In the entrance exams, we took a placement test for Algebra, and the rest of our classes were recommended by our former middle school teachers Purple days, I have Algebra 1, Study Hall, Choir, and Theology 9 (Religion Grade 9) Gold Days, I have Global Science, History 1, French 101, and English 1 There are two buildings to my school. The Main Building, is where my Algebra, Global Science, and Theology classes are. The 2nd building, Is where I have Choir, History, French and English. Due to covid, teachers are only allowed a certain amount of students in class. If you are in overflow, you report to the gym, and join the class via ZOOM. TBH, I like that better than actually having to be in class, lol As for electronic uses, it's different for every teacher. Some let you have your phone out in class for educational purposes (nobody follows that though lol), and some have you put it on your desk. The school doesn't provide students with laptops, unless they have a reason. So if you go to my school, you have to get your own laptop. We get out of school at 2:10pm, but since I play volleyball, I leave school at 4:30. Depending on the day, I finish homework at around 9:30pm.

Where I live my school started around 7-8am and ended at 1pm. And in the day we had (sometimes) like 3-4 subjects (1-2 hours each one). And when sometimes a teacher did not go to school, we used to have free hour (and wait until we had the next subject), or simply they would advance us the subject that we had after. (For example, we had math and then biology. But the mathematics teacher did not go, therefore we had Biology class in the hour we're supposed to have maths. To be able to leave school early. Or there were times when we only had 1 hour of class, and when we finished it we went home. And the schools here don't matter if they are private or public, you have to wear a uniform. Although almost no one wore the uniform (at least in the public schools that I attended) (I have never been to a private one so idk how they work lol), we only used to wear the uniform shirt and some pants that we wanted and that's it. god... sorry I for writing a testament lmao...

I'm shocked that some American schools actually end that late. My school starts at 8am and ends at 3pm or 5pm(depending is you have after school detention or a sport). I'm also surprised that her school didn't allow them to wear sandals but all the other dress code rules are pretty accurate. We have 7 classes in total but 2 of our classes or electives(we get to choose those ourselves) and to pass your grade year you had to pass all the main classes and 1 elective, but we only got to have electives once we started year 6(which is the first year in junior high) and that's also when we could start playing school sorts to represent our school. But other than having to be around ppl everyday, having to go outside to change classes(it's tiring especially winter), and having to wear finger tip length skirts/shorts or wearing hats, American schools are pretty lit.

I’m from Puerto Rico and though it is a US territory our schools and culture are very different. When describing dress codes I think it’s close to the Koreans or any other country where you need to mandatorily wear a uniform. The girl when describing her high school experience is like talking about a university in Puerto Rico. Most schools on the island have strict rules and we can’t dye our hair, use make up or skip school, but I’ve seen girls use minimal, not so noticeable make up and dyed but natural tone hair colors. I’m being general, but maybe some schools are maybe less strict I guess? And in schools we take classes with the same classmates, maybe there are some different americanize schools who lets you choose classes? I don’t know. In the end, the girl is basically describing a university here because you are basically free to be who you want to be while you prepare yourself for the “real world”.

American and Korean schools are so different compared to the schools in Australia. The school i went to was almost like a college, you picked the classes you wanted to learn once you're in year 10 to year 12, meaning 10th grade and 12th grade. Highschool, isn't called highschool its called a college as well, the school is huge as there different buildings for each subject, with a total of 6 classes each building. We have subjects like Japanese, science, history, English, maths, art, cooking, tech, sport, business and baby care. The highschool goes from 7th grade to 12th grade, so kids from age 12 to 18. You have to wear school uniform head to toe, public and private, but you were allowed to wear makeup and have coloured hair.

We had no gym but a small room we used for chapel and assemblies. We had 2 sports soccer and basketball. All of the stuff we used were handed down from public schools and we did not have to wear a uniform but we did have a lot of rules. We weren’t allowed to wear anything above the knee, we could only dye our hair natural colors, only 1 piercing per ear, shoes have to have a back, no shoulders showing, no v necks, no dark makeup or makeup until 8th grade, jeans can’t have holes, bra straps can’t show, no crop tops, and boys can’t have long hair.

I used to dream of studying at an American high school cuz it seemed so free but now that I'm older, I'm kinda happy I study in Asia. Yes I'm not allowed to wear any jewellery, I'm only allowed 3 hairstyles and I have a uniform but I feel like if I studied in America, I'd care less about my education and I would just not care about a lot of things that I should be caring about 😂. Education and conduct is very important in my school. As a senior, you can't just not show up to class, there's no way you could that (Senior year is THE most important year because of the college entrance exam). I guess discipline is emphasised a lot more here, and it kinda helped me realise what's important.

For my school we have a total of 8 classes and they are divided in two u take 4 on what we call A days and the other 4 on what we call B days, sometimes they also mix up the schedule like we have red weeks and white weeks, on red weeks the schedule is normal (1,2,3,4)and on white weeks the schedule is 2,14,3. We are allow to dye our hair and ur clothes has to be finger tip long but honestly no one respects that rules, the only dress code that’s respected is the not wearing hats and not showing your shoulders. For phone usage it really depends on your teacher, I know almost half of my teacher didn’t care for example in math I would come in in class and be in my phone the entire period watching Netflix or sleeping and my teacher didn’t give one fuck, he told me once or twice to put the phone away but gave up when I decided not to listen.

I have seen many Korean teens in videos complain about uniforms, in my case uniforms brought a sense of comfort and security for me, when you wear uniforms you are not single out as being poor immediately because of your clothes, and with individual clothes that actually happened, many times on my island at school, when I used to go to schools that had no uniform I felt single out by certain classmates because of my clothes, I was not rich but I didn't wear brands clothing so they knew immediately that I was not from the rich family like them, and I actually felt pressured to try to fit in because of the bullying and mocking I faced because my not wearing brand clothing, I have a bitter experience with individual clothing in schools.

But isn't drinking illegal for US high school students? How can they even get the drinks..? In Korea, if one store gets caught for selling alcohol/cigarette to underage students it will get shut down by law for one month which leaves them with zero income for the time being. So most store owners strictly check young customer's ID to make sure their business doesn't get suspended. May I ask if it's the same for US liquor stores?

Also older student and bad parents give alcohol to younger kids which is also bad. As for drugs, students sell drugs amoungst themselves. It's a very bad problem here. When I was in highschool, I took an art class and there was a girl that always talked to her friends in class about parties and how they drinked.
