Thanks for the tour today with your guest. It’s a shame they do not completely dismantle the stations. It’s sad to see. See you on the next, Paul. Cheers mate! 😊

I was lucky enough to see the GCR south of Rugby still in use, when I accompanied my dad with his soft drinks and sweets deliveries in Northamptonshire. Brackley, Woodford Halse and a small village called Helmdon were regular trips, although most drops were around Northampton itself. Helmdon station platforms were still extant, the last time I passed the site. The Helmdon Viaduct was an impressive sight.

👍🙂 Nice one. Great memories there I'm sure. I look forward to getting a little further south soon.

Maybe that gorgeous viaduct at Helmdon is to be used for HS2.? Work was being done on it..

I'd seen this Lutterworth station on video of the GC, and also photos and maps, but it's a stunner to see some remains, and that's real good. Incredible to think that this once main line has been closed for fifty-four years!

Hope you're well Ffranc. 54 years. It won't be that long before it would have been closed longer than it was in service.

Thanks for another enjoyable video. Personally I prefer your longer videos especially when in the same area. Feel it gives me more of a feel for the district. Cheers Paul

My local station. I lived on Station Road and did my earliest train spotting from the old cattle dock.

Cracking little video, amazing place, love the fact that it's been kept for us historians to marvel at. I do wish that they would just strip back the undergrowth to see what's underneath it all.

That sounds like a cracking community project.

Also if was reading that a few years ago there was planning for new homes on the site too including where the bridge is.

That brick structure is the base of the cattle dock. The signal box was further up towards the road bridge and nearer the track.

Cheers Andrew. Was the access to the cattle dock back along with path and under the bridge?

Why don't they bring back GCR rather than HS2

Parts of it would have made sense.

Why was the station in decline before its closure? Were people just not using it?
@WobblyRunner Жыл бұрын
Something like that. General lack of investment and the upturn in road usage key factors.

I've a complaint.... The video isn't long enough 🤣 Seriously, are people's attention span so poor now that 30 minutes is too long? Back on topic though, shame this station was left in such a state , but can understand for safety why it's fenced off.

Hahaha the longer videos will be back on future days out 😄. Looks like someone keeps breaking down the barbed wire fence, but gets repaired fairly swifly.
