Hi everyone! Quick correction: Shawl in a Ball by Lion Brand Yarns is an Acrylic/Cotton blend (not wool!). It really is magical, It felt so fine, I kept thinking it was a wool blend! It's so beautiful and I love it.

Jayda InStitches thanks for the correction! I checked the skeins in my stash and again at the craft store today and was bummed I couldn’t find the ones with wool! (Didn’t keep me from grabbing a couple more colors, though!)

Jayda, you have outdone yourself on this beauty, can’t wait to finish my current project and get started on this. And a couple hints, for what they’re worth to my follow crocheters.. Shawl in a Cake/Ball is a favorite yarn of mine to use, but not all colors come with the metallic thread so if you order it online, look for the ones with the metallic threads. And I recently read that if you go up one or two hook sizes for your beginning chain, then go back to the hook size in the pattern, your beginning chain will be easier to work into and won’t be so wonky and tight, like mine usually are. With 200+ starting chains in this, I’ll give that a try. Again Jayda, stunning, as always. Thank you, you’re the best.

Jayda, your passion for crocheting and yarn is so beautiful ❤ Crochet and yarn mean so much more than most would think. The yarn itself can "talk" 😉 to me, it puts a smile on so many people's faces, strangers and loved ones. I love the way you describe the yarn you use in your intro, as if its something magical and beautiful. I feel the same because i see smiling faces, love being spread, warmth to someone who is cold...... Crochet, yarn and an amazing teacher creates happiness 🧶❤ Thank you so much for your beautiful creations!

I want to use a similar yarn, did you use the entire ball of the Lion brand yarn? Really wondering how many yards are needed.
@JaydaInStitches
@JaydaInStitches 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Darcy, I used about 2/3s of the skein, but this yarn is different to other size 4 medium weights, in which case you might end up using all 150 g of a typical size 4 weight yarn. I would err on the side of having more than enough just so you don't run out halfway through the project :)

Beautiful scarf. If I don't have that yarn would you use a 4 weight or a 3 weight as a substitute? And would I use a same size hook if using a 3 weight?
@JaydaInStitches
@JaydaInStitches 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Martha, if you change up the yarn, you'll want to pay close attention to the formula so you can get a scarf the length you want it to be - I would say a regular size 3 weight would be a good substitute, like the Lion Brand Mandala :)

Hi there! Great video, but I do have a quick question and I hope you are happy to answer?! I'm making this in 4-ply so my row count is already at 15 and I don't think I'm as deep as your 12 rows were before you then sectioned for the extra top strip. Please can you tell me in inches (or cms) how deep the scarf part is and then the band too? Many thanks in advance! =)

Hi Laura, long time no chat! We haven't done a window covering pattern yet (I've made the odd little thing, but nothing like a curtain or drape). Cotton or wool would stand up longer to the sun beating on it than acrylic or polyester, so I'd start with a natural fiber :) Then just a simple stitch pattern (depending on how see-through you wanted it to be, lacy or not!)

Made this today but with my own touches. Went with a “L” hook and used Lion Brand Scarfie (#5 weight 78% acrylic 22% wool) stranded with a 70% Mohair 30% acrylic #3 weight for a super warm version. My mother wears her hair perfectly done and will never wear hats even though she lives on a mountain with constant winter snow events and howling bitter winds.. This will allow her to not get hat hair but not have frozen ears. I tried it on in my 70 degree house and instantly began to get hot. Thanks for the pattern inspiration.

@@elainejan I used a mohair by Ice yarns..it was affordable and lots of yarn per skein. I actually ordered it on eBay but the cost was not any higher than direct from Ice Yarns. May I ask if you were slip stitching the hood seam with the ride side out? It looked like it and then you said you turn it inside out and THAT was the right side. I tried to see if the tops of the dc's were showing as the right side when you started that four rows for the hood, and it looked like it was to me. Thank you.
@JaydaInStitches
@JaydaInStitches 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Dolly, this pattern doesn't really have a right or wrong side since it's worked back and forth. Having said that, if there is a side you think is prettier, then you can hold the scarf with that side facing itself, work the seam, and then turn it right side out :)

I love this pattern, but not a fan of shawl in a ball. I have some mill end cotton yarn from Herrschners (did I spell that right). I might try it with cotton yarn and see how it comes out. You are so creative. I love just going back and re-watching your videos.

Hi Cynthia! The shawl in a ball is a lighter size 4 yarn, so if your yarn choice is similar in weight, it will work the same 😊

The Lionbrand website shows this yarn as being an acrylic cotton blend. Is there more than one version of this yarn and does it matter which one we use for your tutorial?

I thought the same thing! As soon as she said wool, I thought what???? I've been using this yarn for a while and it has always been a cotton blend.

Hi! It's an acrylic/cotton blend, I just had wool in my head LOL, it's so fine feeling that's all I could think of!

I made mine out of some retired Lion Brand Suede in Purple. I made my base chain 307 st. I also made the head piece 2 extra v stitches so my neck would be cozy also. It’s about 9 ft long from end to end. I used 6.5 mm hook. I wanted this to be long enough to wrap around my neck twice and to keep warm in colder weather. It’s a cute patter! I will do again in a lighter yarn. Thanks for the great tutorial!
