i cannot get over the nationwide trend of no more wood burning fireplaces allowed. does no one in the building industry see or appreciate this? generations of Americans have now grown to adult/parenthood and never built or sat in front of a real fire. that's a real loss. how is a luxury custom home worth millions with gas-only fireplaces???

I agree 100 percent. I was fortunate enough to have grown up in a house with a wood burning fireplace. we did not use it much but when it would snow or really cold rainy day my parents would light it up. Sitting in front of it was magical and there is no other smell in the world like. And I am so happy to have been able to share the experience with my kids.
