in a sense you're right. vaporwave is a kind of 80s revival. To be more precise though, Its characterizes by slower tempos, smooth jazz samples, big echos, tape delays, regular delays and nostalgia inducing samples. If you're looking for a more truthful revival of synth 80s pop, search for the term synth wave.
