My husband Don DuPay was Director of Security at the Benson Hotel from 1980-1986, and his upcoming book, "Simon's Place: Stories of the Benson Hotel," is coming out in only a few weeks. The book is all about the challenges he faced trying to get the hotel up to code and keep the the guests safe. From black-market mushrooms the chef would buy off the street, to the "Unwanteds" who would wander in the front doors, to the rock bands that would come to the Benson Hotel and trash their rooms.
