Girl I remember when ELF was a terrible brand when I was in high school. It used to be that brand that people wore when they were really young or really broke & now look at them. I’m so proud of how far they’ve come. The quality on some products is as good as if not better than luxury. 🥰

I had to lecture him about keeping the layoff letter neutral, you don’t add in nice things 😂). James & Robert have been playing on repeat to keep me calm but distracted. I also did makeup on my maid of honour and she had such a different eye shape and skin than I did. She looked beautiful and her makeup also lasted whole night! God, those covergirl balms are criminally underrated. They're so lovely for everyday where you don't want to fuzz over application and fading and eating like you would with a lipstick. The bliss you berry shade is truly stunning too. Have you tried the lipgloss from the same line? While the lip balms are pretty good for the price, that lipgloss is my all time favorite. 💄So, drugstore recommendations...as a "mature" lady (I recently turned 50 😉), I tend to stick with Milani, Physicians Formula, and elf. Milani manufactures many (maybe all, not sure) of their products in Italy, so you're getting great product for only a bit of a higher price than other drugstore brands. Physicians Formula I tend to gravitate towards their various powder products containing all the "butters" they use as they tend to be more forgiving on more "mature skin." Elf is great for various odds and ends; I even have much of their skincare/cleansers as well as other tools/brushes. Over the past few years, my skin has changed-as you can imagine-and the combination of these three brands has worked well for me! Also, I've placed online orders with each of these and had very good service with all of them-no problems with shipping or breakage. Sometimes, it's nice to shop at home in peace and quiet and receive fresh/clean products that haven't been previously opened/swatched-just a thought. I hope that's in some way helpful! Have a great one, all! 🙏💜

Second comment: When you put on the luxury contour and highlight...I nearly gasped. The difference between that side and the side you hadn't done yet was so stark. It looked amazing.

the biggest downside of a lot of drugstore is limited shade ranges, both in depth and undertone. I’m fair and cool toned, and a lot of drugstore shade ranges just don’t cut it. (rn I’m using about face, which is juuust above most drugstore prices.) but for basically everything else drugstore stays winning!

Totally agree, many we will say, Quote, drugstore brands have stepped it up, in terms of ingredients and appealing colors, tones, etc. Thinking back to early times, Maybelline, Revlon, etc, were makeup used in films, on stars, etc, and many are from the same “houses” as luxury brands. Our choices are probably driven by choices, affordability for our budgets, and let’s not forget marketing and the drive to fit in-Thanks, Robert-Good Stuff!

I had the Nars concealer and the Fit me concealer. Yes Nars is so dry, I hated it...I went back to using the Fit me one and threw away my Nars concealer...so glad you have the same opinion!!!

I really found this upload interesting Robert because it actually shows that both sides have good & not so good… so surely that says that you certainly do not need to spend on luxury for the best products, & actually what I do is I just buy a mixture of drug store & slightly higher end, and only buy a luxury product if I know the product is going to perform xxx ❤❤❤❤

I don't know if it's my skin or the makeup itself but I can't get away with using drugstore brands. When it's freshly applied it looks fine, but give it a few hours and it will just melt, look patchy and oily. As far as drugstore eye products go, if it's sunny outside and my eyes water a little, they just dissolve and get in my eyes which cascades into full-on tears, then everything streaks down my cheeks.

I am rather a new subscriber, and this is the first time I realized that you have a brow scar and not just a cool swathe of hair color in the brow from a birthmark that you just rock. I have a scar in my left brow but it is vertical and just makes my brow stick up and outwards(like an old geezer instead of a regular gal). Brow gel can only do so much. lol

A tip with the Make Beauty blush; they sell individual refills of the blushes, if you have an empty palette the refills will save you a little money.

I feel like not using drugstore products on clients (depending on product wear of course) makes sense. If you hire a makeup artist you are usually paying for a touch of luxury you might not do for yourself day to day. That being said, the one time I hired an MUA I paid zero attention to what she was using. Also, if the MUA I hired used a bunch of high end cosmetics and whispered conspiratorially (and truthfully) that this *drugstore brand of a daily use product* was their favorite I'd probably tip them extra for the service and for making me feel like I had just learned some kind of industry secret. I know this is true because Robert said something nice about the cheap concealer I started using instead of my expensive go-to and I reflexively wanted to tip him ten dollars for validating my opinion.

Beauty Bay is quietly one of the better brands out there I think. I love their liquid blushes, I have their highlighters, the eyeshadow is very impressively pigmented for the price and they are very affordable! No one ever talks about them it feels like, but it deserves more love
