CHEMISTRY NERD HERE: I can only speak for myself because I can DIY virtually any shelf product including conditioners & gels (I work in chemical supply chain). Believe me when I say even the MOST expensive luxury items only contain 1-2$ worth of ingredients so you're paying solely for marketing, shipping, research and proprietary formulation.. and Ironically the most expensive ingredients tend to be the fragrance (which does nothing). That said, it's not lost on me that people still want an easy, luxury experience so I want to separate the bad guys from the good guys. GOOD GUYS 1. Adwoa / Briogeo - They *actually* use valuable ingredients that are difficult to source such as Hydrolized Quinoa, Blue Tansy, Clays, Broccoli oil, gentle surfactants (cleansers), Esters, Slippery elm etc. 2. Shea Moisture - They aren't really "luxury" in terms of price, but they're easily the biggest bang for their buck. I'm aware they have a bad wrap for their formulation changes and company direction but if you're solely looking for hair care, their formulations are vastly more expensive & effective than even the best crap from "luxury" brands that cost 3x more. 3. Olaplex - The #3 is all you need but it's tried and true. It's has a very specific, proprietary ingredient that they made in a lab and *it works* as marketed. The rest of their brand is them trying to capitalize on their invention but it's not needed. BAD GUYS 1. Curlsmith - They are downright a scam company using shamefully cheap formulation. I suspect it's because they're "Vegan" and their entire budget goes to researching natural formulation. But that said, the ingredients they use are actually EVEN CHEAPER that drugstore / walmart items. Then they have the audacity to use small packaging to fool you into thinking it's valuable. That's not to say they don't have good products but they don't come close to the value of black-centered mid-range brands. 2. Pattern - Not only are her products cheaply made and have formulations you can find in Garnier / Suave products, but I personally feel Tracy is Type 4 phishing. I could forgive her for cheaply made products but not for making products for people with hair like herself when she markets so heavily to kinky / coarse textured hair. Her brand is nothing better than pretty packaging. 3. Bread - They're another Curlsmith. They're abusing the "Vegan / Sustainable" packaging thing. Being "natural" is not an excuse to charge people 5x. The moral of the story: Midrange black-owned brands, in my view, offer the best value and results - for black hair. Luxury Brands literally use the same ingredients and often throw in unnecessary ingredients to make their products useful to other hair types. Camile-Rose / Miche / Curl Origin / She Scent It and other brands that stay in that 15$ range are the best value from a financial standpoint, but if you want to pay more for fragrance and pretty packaging I would go with Adwoa.

Need to try Adwoa and Bread! But living in the U.K. is like living behind God back (🤣 if you’re Caribbean you understand this saying), when it comes to getting natural hair products. I have a few U.K. websites that I get natural hair products from, but a lot of brands y’all be talking about (e.g. Adwoa and Bread , and lots more products ) are not on the U.K. sites. I’ve actually went out my way to order from USA sites, and ship to my USA mail box! Then they ship to me in London. I did that for Neges Banda, based off your recommendation of loving Neges Banda. I love Neges Banda! I’ve just finished the pre poo, that’s amazing! I also love their honey mask! I need to buy more of the pre poo. I’m not too much into their styling products (yet to try the twisting cream), but the styling products I tried so far from them, were just OK. But that pre poo and honey mask? Bomb!

I love the Don’t Despair conditioner from BrioGeo. It is one of my favorites. Have purchased twice. Adowoa Beauty is a favorite brand period. Though I love both deep conditioners, the Blue Tansy is amazing. The Baomint Leave in is a favorite. Love the Curl Bond Rehab Salve from Curl Smith. I got the entire kit and the deep conditioner. Works well together. I like their color products/gels. The color did not bleed. Not interested in anything else. Love Olaplex 3. Too expensive. I’ll use CurlSmith or the Twist Strengthen the Bond by Ouidad. $12.99 for 8.5 ounces. Love it. Never tried Bread. I only use 3 shampoos because I finally found 3 that works for me. Melanin, Miche Beauty’s Detox and Biolage Hydra Source Shampoo. None of them leave my hair feeling tangled or ruff. I just purchased the Curls Sea Moss Collection from Curl Box. A shampoo is included so I will give it a try but the one item I don’t go looking for is a shampoo. Pattern was not a favorite but I do want to try the new deep conditioners, however if it smells like the other products it’s gonna be a No. Love my Dyson!!! Hmmm, call me bougie looks like I like the higher end brands. One favorite I will always purchase unless they get rid of it is the Innersense Hydrating Cream rinse out conditioner. I get the salon size when they have a sale. This product detangles my hair like nothing else. Hair strands knots just melt away. It has to be used with water, which seem to activate it somehow. I absolutely love it. The 32 oz. Refill is $74.00. To repurchase the bottle the price is $80.00 so you see I definitely need to get it on sale. The 10 oz is $30.00. I done lost my mind, But, I use what works. I try to keep my head of hair happy. It’s been a 5-year journey and in this past year I found my staples. It is what it is. Why don’t I ever see the questions on Instagram. I am subscribed. I notice by the time I see something it’s already been answered. 🤔

Curlsmith was very hit and miss for me. I LOVE their protein collection but the moisture collection with the orange label? I tested out a few from that line for a month and no matter how little I used it ALWAYS left a residue. Infuriating. BUT their In-Shower Style Fixer gel with the level 10 hold pairs fantastically with the Multi-tasking Conditioner. The only one I tried from the scalp collection with the blue label was the Hydro Creme Soothing Mask, which was alright! Not the best or the worst, it did was it was advertised to do and I never had am overall negative experience with it. Never bought it a second time because I have other DC's in my cupboard that satisfy my high porosity hair's needs better. I'd say I've repurchased their Bonding treatment (all time fave) and the Multi-tasking conditioner the most.

So sad you don't let Pattern beauty! My 4a hair loves it. The kinky coily is not a leave-in, it's a rinse out conditioner. And you really have to put it on in the shower with a lot of water or it will be too thick. But with water, it's like butter! There actual leave-in is really good. And the styling cream lays your cuticles flat, kind if like Baomint. I don't really use gels, so I didn't bother with that. But I did get the custard, which I am excited to try!

Everyone seems to be loving the pattern mousse but I didn’t like it. I do like their leave in though. The blue tansy leave in from Adwoa irritated my scalp. I actually like curlsmith double cream deep quencher and their hydro creme soothing mask. I wasn’t a fan of the Bread dc and leave in/styling cream.

Hey Ashley 😘, ok you making me rethink trying pattern again lol. And I think others have suggested the blue deep conditioner from Curlsmith so I may give it a try. Thanks for watching 🙏🏾

I saw Briogeo and Pattern in Sephora and my feet wouldn't allow me to even walk over to them 😂😂😂😂 I know Briogeo is expensive and Pattern, I've heard, is a hit or a miss. I can't be wasting my coins on things I'm not definite about so my feet was like ... Don't even try it girl. Walk the other way 😂😂😂😂

Oh wow, I did not know Pattern was at Sephora now lol. I would only buy Briogeo during the Sephora sale lol

I like Briogeo but I'm watching with a side eye for ingredients changes since they're no longer black owned. They were acquired by Wella Company 🙄

Nooooooooo! I didn’t know that. I’ll have to get my hands on some more conditioner before they switch it up.

Oh wow!!! I had no idea they were sold. I pray they do not change the ingredients. Thanks for letting us know!

Save your money on pattern their products are meh and the smell is kinda obnoxious, kinda floral rose with geranium. Curlsmith is so so and I actually like briogio products .

Hey Jennifer 🤗. Yeah, I am still debating whether I want to try the newer pattern products. Only time will tell. Thanks for watching 💕

I hate the packaging.

Lol yeah I’m not a big fan of the packaging either. I know that it’s more environmentally friendly but not really user friendly. Thanks for watching 💕

The packaging is like refill bags. The positive is not trying to squeeze super hard/non flexible plastic to get products out. The products are just okay though. The shampoo is better than the conditioner in my opinion. I will not repurchase.
