25 years ago, we had Wilsonart Classic laminate installed in our kitchen, living room, dining room, foyer, and hallways. It was layed on a foam-type underlayment and the planks were glued together. There's a beautiful texture to it that wasn't present in its rival at the time, Pergo.There were few choices available 30 years ago, and I believe Wilsonart no longer makes laminate flooring which is a shame because all these years later, despite kids and an 80lb black lab/shepherd mix, the floor is in pristine condition. I wet mop and there's been zero damage.

I have had laminate in 2 different homes I purchased, and there were scratches and bubbles. My current home was switched to LVP, and I love it. I had a water issue where my dishwasher flooded, and my LVP was not damaged. 4:41

What are your thoughts on Mohawk puretech, vs solidtech, vs revwood???
@d1rectorv6 ай бұрын
I want to know the same. A large local flooring store steered me towards Mohawk revwood over LVP because it looks and feels more like wood, is less slippery, more scratch resistant, has a 10 year waterproof warranty and was less expensive. I would say it is hands down a winner over LVP for me based on their recommendation. And you’d think they’d be trying to sell me something more expensive not less.

@@d1rectorv was this for high end LVP? I'm looking for the highest quality, and am getting different info from local places recommending waterproof laminate over LVP for durability.
@d1rectorvАй бұрын
@@luke9822 Yes. After shopping multiple stores and talking to several flooring installers, laminate was recommended almost every time and honestly did generally appear more like wood than LVP. After rewatching this video, I definitely disagree with some of the points. For example when it comes to how realistic and scratch resistant it is that is one reason why the stores recommended laminate. They said it’s also quieter. And some are even rated waterproof enough for steam mopping. One thing he doesn’t discuss in this “comprehensive” video is how floors are rated. Laminate has AC ratings and that can help you determine how durable they will be. We ultimately chose an AC4 rated Mohawk Revwood select laminate everywhere except the bathrooms, which will be tiled. They have higher tiers but we didn’t feel we needed to spend more on those. I’d say talk to local reps who have experience with installation and get a few quotes that include free in home measurement. Don’t go to the big box stores. Talk to the installers, not just salespeople.

Laminate looks more realistic, has better scratch resistance, and won't fade in the sun

I had laminate flooring for about 11 years and it has multiple water damage areas. Everytime , i would be stressed when people not carefully and spill water on it. I just installed vinyle flooring. First thing i noticed is when stepping on it, it feels better solid when ur subfloor is even. I have few spots where subfloor is not and i can feel a dip and the plastic feeling. I also compared both side by side and notice that laminate has woods vs vinyl is completely none wood material. I took a piece of vinyl scrap from the installer and soacked in water for about 1 hr and it was in good condition. My conclusion is that laminate feels more durable because it partially made out of wood. Vinyl is 99.99 waterproof but it is partially made out of plastic.

What about toxic fumes, laminate vs LVP?

is the only benefit of laminate being a little cheaper for the material.. and.. the "feel of it" when barefoot?

“The most sought after choices right now” …are imitations? Pretty sure real wood, tile are up there as sought after choices

Today's laminate is alot better than 10 years ago, I did lvp in my house 3 years ago 8mm not cheap, we don't use shoes in my house and the lvp floors are trash, the material it self its very durable still looks like new but a lot of the locks at the seams broke and some buckle when I install them I make sure I had at least 1/2 inch space from any wall and it still fail. don't do lvp it's trash
