추가설명 (영문 지문과 자막오타 확인은 댓글란에서 확인) :
- “something that I often see happening to a lot of people…” (often의 위치가 이렇게 앞으로 와도 됩니다)
- “..go in depth with..” (with 전치사 대신 in 을 사용해도 됩니다, 어감의 차이가 조금 있을 뿐, 의미의 큰 차이는 없습니다)
- “..start to lose interest..” 대신 “..start losing interest..” 라고 해도 됩니다. 그 이유는 start + ing 는 언제나 start + to V 를 늘 대신할 수 있음. 반면, start + to V는 제한적입니다.(자세한 내용은 다른 강의에서 두 번 정도 설명한 적 있음)

나를 포함한 많은 사람들한테서 자주 보이는 것이 있는데, 다양한 것을 조금씩만 경험하고 깊이 있게 경험하는 것은 없다는거예요. 이미 우리가 너무나도 잘 아는 사실 - 거의 모든 것은 처음에는 재밌고 흥미롭죠. 하지만 얼마 가지 않아 흥미를 잃기 시작하는 경우가 많은데 이때가 바로 복잡해지고 어려워지는 바로 그 시점이라는거예요. 근데 우리는 본능적으로 그것이 더 이상 재밌지
않다고만 생각해요. 그리고 우리도 모르게 이미 다른, 더 재밌어 보이는 것을 찾고 마는데 그 새로운 것이 사실 우리에게 더 잘 맞다는 생각에 너무 쉽게 설득되죠. 어디서 많이 들어본 얘기 같지 않아요?
그래서 결국 여기 저기에 조금씩 발만 담그는 식이 되버리는거예요. 생각해봐요, 다양한 식당을 탐방하는데 메인요리를 먹을 때까지 참지 못하고 늘 애피타이저만 먹고 나온다는 것을.. 제 말은, 발만 담가보고 "여기는 나를 위한 것이 없다."라고 하면 아무것도 것도 얻을 것이 없어요.

선생님! 구독자분들의 댓글들이 워낙 많아서 제 고백(?)은 못 보고 넘어가실테지만, 선생님 덕분에 어려운 훈련해나가면서 선생님 정말 존경하게 된 과학자입니다! 10여년 넘게 국내외 학계 연구소이며 기업체이며 오래 겪어왔지만 선생님처럼 매력적이신 사람을 본 적이 거의 없는 것 같아요. 하드코어 강의는 특히 단연 최고!! 영어를 워낙 좋아했던지라 일찍이 통번역어학원을 1년 다니며 맹훈련했었던 저에게도 정말 너무나 황금같은 내용입니다. 선생님의 하드코어 강의들은 들을때마다 황금사과가 와르르르 쏟아져서 그걸 허겁지겁 귀하게 받아 담는 기분이에요.

다른 유튜브 채널이 아무리 캐주얼하게 접근한다고 해도 조금은 학문적인 면이 있기 마련인데 라이브 아카데미 채널은 진짜 실제 생활에서 사용 빈도 수가 높은 것만 골라서 가르쳐줍니다. 기본 영어가 빈곤한데 어쩌다보니 외국계 기업에 들어와서 영어 때문에 힘들었는데 이 채널에서 공부한 것들이 진짜 자주 사용됩니다. 미국인 디렉터에게 메일로 업무 보고 할 때 '이건 어떻게 표현하지?'라고 생각하던 것들, 해외 지사 담당자들이랑 컨퍼런스 콜 할 때 한국어로는 자주 사용하는 표현이 영어 표현으로 생각 안 나서 어버버 했던 표현들이 여기에 대부분 있습니다. 설사 알고 있다고 하더라도 같은 표현을 다양하게 익힐 수 있어서 아주 유용하게 사용하고 있습니다. 부디 만수무강 하시고, 하는 일마다 의도치 않게 성공하시고, 적게 일 하고 돈벼락 맞으세요.

Here's something we all already know - Most things are fun and interesting in the beginning. But, in a lot of cases, we don't get very far before we start to lose interest. The thing is, this is usually when thing's start to get complicated and difficult. But we instinctively tell ourselves that it's just not fun anymore. And before we even realize it, we've already found something else what we're really into. Sound familiar? So we end up dabbling in a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Just imagine, exploring many different restaurants but only trying their appetizers and never having the patience to stay long enough to try their main dishes. My point is, we'll never get anywhere or find anything just by dipping our feet and saying. "There's nothing in that water for me."

Today's content was a must for me to study "hardcore" and not to give up. At first it was even difficult to understand the sentence structure. There was a big difference between reading and writing a sentence. Of course there was a greater difference between writing and speaking. Something that I often see happening to a lot people including myself is we get a taste and never go in-depth with something. 나를 포함한 많은 사람들한테서 자주 보이는 것이 있는데, 다양한 것을 조금씩만 경험하고 깊이 있게 경험하는 것은 없다는거예요. 이미 우리가 너무나도 잘 아는 사실 - 거의 모든 것은 처음에는 재밌고 흥미롭죠. 하지만 얼마 가지 않아 흥미를 잃기 시작하는 경우가 많은데 이때가 바로 복잡해지고 어려워지는 바로 그 시점이라는거예요. 근데 우리는 본능적으로 그것이 더 이상 재밌지 않다고만 생각해요. 그리고 우리도 모르게 이미 다른, 더 재밌어 보이는 것을 찾고 마는데 그 새로운 것이 사실 우리에게 더 잘 맞다는 생각에 너무 쉽게 설득되죠. 어디서 많이 들어본 얘기 같지 않아요? 그래서 결국 여기 저기에 조금씩 발만 담그는 식이 되버리는거예요. 생각해봐요, 다양한 식당을 탐방하는데 메인요리를 먹을 때까지 참지 못하고 늘 애피타이저만 먹고 나온다는 것을.. 제 말은, 발만 담가보고 "여기는 나를 위한 것이 없다."라고 하면 아무것도 것도 얻을 것이 없어요. Something that I see often happening to people, including myself, is we get a taste of so many different things and never go in-depth with anything. Here's something we all already know. Most things are fun and interesting in the beginning. But in many cases, we don't get very far before we start to lose interest. The thing is, this is usually when things start to get complicated. But we instinctively tell ourselves that it's just not fun anymore. And before we even realize it, we've already found something else that looks more fun. And it's so easy to convince ourselves that a new thing is what we're really into. Sounds familiar? So we end up dabbling in a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Just imagine exploring many different restaurants but only trying their appetizers and never having the patience to stay long enough to try their main dishes. My point is, we'll never get anywhere of finding anything just by dipping our feet and saying. "There's nothing in that water for me."

1. Don't just dip your feet and saying "There's nothing in that water for me". You are just wasting you time and money if you are simply dabblling in a little bit of this and a little bit of that and trying not to go in-depth of them. 2. It's important to try to get a taste of many different things, but not as much important as trying to have the patience to put up with hard times if you really want to find what you're really into. 3. Something that I often see happening to a lot of people including myself is we have a hard time focusing on the stuff infront of us. Here's something we all already know - We are motivated a lot to get our work done in the beginning. But, in a lot of cases, we don't get very far before we just find ourselves watching irrelevant but more interesting videos and searching funny things on social media. The thing is, this is usually when we really need some more efficient "real" break times, not just sitting on the same chair. And that's why it's really crucial to be balanced on work and rest if you want to focus on what you have to finish much longer.
