Почему не ловите гравитационные волны оптоволокном ?

Amazing! Very much a Black Hole movie (1979) moment! When are you planning an expedition to visit it on the Cygnus spaceship 🚀

Dumb question: This merger is at a range greater than 17 billion light years. The universe is fewer than 14 billion years old. How has there been enough time for a GW @ light speed signal to reach us?

Hi Ian. Not a dumb question at all! This is a particular measure of the distance to the merging black holes, known as the luminosity distance, that takes into account the fact that the universe has expanded significantly since the gravitational waves were emitted.

If we ask, instead, for how *long* did the gravitational waves from this event travel before they reached us, the answer is about 7 billion years.

@@LIGOVirgo Thanks again, that was going to be my next question. :)

Questions? Is this the tiny twins black hole? Or are they huge? Now, everyone has more questions than before. Such an interesting find. What's the smallest black hole and what's the largest black hole? There should be a 1800 number so I can ask questions at will. Is there any water in a black hole? And what makes the gravitational force = to that of the mass?
