Hi Mr Swiss NZ. Ive been reading watching for a few years now and nearly ready to do Cambelt, water pump etc on my VM RA428. Yup its a diesel wrangler. a 2008 2.8L jobby. Do you? Have you worked on those motors being very similar to the Colorado motors made in Taiwan? I did buy a cam locking tool. And the guy I bought it off on trademe assured me it is the one. Gosh its like a mine field out there. So now I'm thinking I need to find someone that has done this job etc rather than a newbie learning as they go. Altho I have raced cars at club level and an electro mech engineer im now in the golden years... Im in the AK area. Any ideas whom you could suggest? You have obviously taken this motor out for other reasons beside a cam belt replacement? Cheers . Hope to hear from you.

Hey mate, how far off was your Chinese exhaust camshaft tool? I've got one too and it seems to be out by only one or two degrees. I'm thinking of cutting and weld it as you have. Would you recommend?

@@johncitizen4458 mine was way off like 3mm or something for where the M6/10mm headed bolt goes. I would recommend to lend a good tool of someone else and make sure its right

How did you know what spot it needs to be welded in? How did you know it was off?
@MrSwissNZАй бұрын
@@CopperheadWelding-f4o I used the GM tool from a dealership and set engine up with that. then cut and welded my tool back together in the same spot as the dealership tool. I also knew it was off when the crank pulley pin is fitted and the cam tool didn't line up correctly

I think I just got stung by my new ebay lock kit. I put the crank lock in and the ebay cam tool was a few mm off to the left. Silly me changed the belt and moved the cam so the ebay tool would fit. Now it had a p0017 camshaft position code. Before using this ebay kit I only ever used Toledo kits and never had this code come up.

@@leftyspinn yes I would say your cam position is out just a bit in correlation to bottom end. at least you dont have to do the water pump this time :D
