Might be worth noting that "Jove" is sometimes used when someone really means, God the Heavenly Father, the Christian God. This is probably due to the roman practice of synchrotism where they just casually conflate different gods. The description used in the second use of the name is more reminiscent of Christian ideas than of Greco-Roman ones.

Oh yes, you can definitely argue so. The way in which he made this elegy extravagantly rich by incorporating all sorts of allusions, references and rhetorical devices and also how he used this as a platform to criticize the church, all these make me think that he strayed a bit away from the immediate purpose. He might have wanted the poem to give his career a boost.

You are misreading Nymphs. Nymphs are unmarried chaste young women…but they cannot be acknowledged because you read them through simulacra
