Wardrobe: all black, classic slightly oversized shirt in key/basic colors, narural color outfits, fabric linen for elegance and ease, all kind of blazers, no too tight clothing, always go for a slightly bigger size/look 5. Attention to Details: jewellery is finishing touch, just a few

Well done for breaking out and into real style, which Lydia demonstrates perfectly, a few simple basics in whichever neutral colours suit you - black and camel aren't for everyone for instance but navy, white, mid- blue and even soft pink could be more flattering - with the addition of belt, and/or earrings, necklace, jaunty scarf, and handbag and shoes that are your personal taste but not garish, and you're there! Perhaps your mother was anxious that you should dress modestly, nothing tight, too bright or short, and you will be able to show her that classic is as modest as any mother could wish.

Keep in mind girls and women that these people who gives us advice, give it from their own perspective and their own take on fashion/ make up/ hairstyle that they like or think it suits them the best. This information it’s not meant to be followed to the tee. This is not one size fits all because we are all different. Like everything, take what you like or serves you, and skip the rest. For a lot of women wearing oversized clothing looks beautiful on them, but for me I don’t look good. I hate when the pants are touching the floor! To me that’s a no-no... I would never wear silk, I don’t have the money, or time to take care of it, or the social life to be put together all of the time. I’m just a mom that wants to put more effort to her appearance because my kids are big now, I am making a little money , and I want to feel good and look good! For me. Also , we are different shapes, and ages, and have different styles, hair, color of skin so... don’t feel pressured to straighten your hair if your hair is curly! You do you.

Hi.. I want to let y’all know that Jesus Loves you. I’m not trying to do anything negative here, but I used to have terrible mental health problems and I want to let y’all know that they went away when I got to know Jesus, they went away. I Love y’all and I promise that He Loves you too. You are very Loved. You can go to Him and be saved. You can read His word and talk to Him. He hears. We’ve gotta have enough discipline to read and Study what He said in His Word. He is my everything. Jesus Loves you. I’m not joking and I’m not trying to “shove religion down your throat” I want to come out and say it because The Holy Bible tells us to share The Gospel. What kind of person would I be if I didn’t tell people that they can fill that empty void in them? God saved me. I used to struggle with TERRIBLE mental health. GOD revealed HIMSELF to me through HIS word and The Presence of THE HOLY SPIRIT. I now am free. I used to think that I would never be cured and it seemed crazy to think that there were actually people who don’t have these problems. Freedom from ocd sounded like I dream. I thought having a slim body and a boyfriend would fill the empty void inside me that felt like it was taking over. It didn’t. I just kept wanting to be skinnier and kept wanting more people to like me. Now I know GOD and have so much JOY and PEACE (yes, real PEACE) that I want everyone else to have it. So please, talk to GOD, ask HIM to show you HIS presence, HIS word. Jesus is The Only way to The Father. We have to believe HIM. Not just believe that He exists, but believe in who we KNOW HE IS. We have to know HIM. The Holy Bible says that Jesus is The Truth. It also says that The TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE. I’m a living witness. Many people say that they feel uncomfortable when we talk about The Truth. It’s called conviction and we are supposed to feel it. Also, demons hate when you know GOD so they give you so many desires not to know HIM. but GOD is against them. GOD LOVES you. The Holy Bible says that GOD IS LOVE. John 8:32 “and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.” Everybody is searching for The Answer. I know what The Answer is. The Answer is JESUS. God is the meaning of Life. 1 John 4:8 “The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” Philippians 3 Ezekiel 33:8-9 When I say to the wicked, ‘You wicked person, you will certainly die,’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked about his way, that wicked person shall die for his wrongdoing, but I will require his blood from your hand. But if you on your part warn a wicked person to turn from his way and he does not turn from his way, he will die for his wrongdoing, but you have saved your life. Isaiah 41:10 New American Standard Bible Isaiah 41:10 nasb Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will also help you, I will also uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

I agree on almost everything you suggest Lydia, apart from 'oversized vs a tighter jacket'. I have a black Jil Sander fitted jacket which is absolute perfection. The shoulders fit perfectly (as opposed to baggy/loose hanging) which looks so polished; I always get compliments when wearing it. An oversized jacket on me quite honestly looks ridiculous, as I am just 1.63 in height (5'4") and anything oversized completely drowns me. I think it would depend on one's build and height.
@LydiaJaneTomlinson4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jay! I think you hit the nail on the head with the idea of fitted. It’s got to be the right fit, definitely, but I think tighter styles that are nipped in at the waist look dated at the moment. Whereas a lovely cut and fit is different, perhaps I should have expressed it a bit more in detail!

@@jesspz3780 hey! Wanted to share a few tips that have worked for me. I've stopped blow drying as it made my hair puff up and look frizzy. Instead I do a middle part, comb my hair sleekly and use one Bobby pin on either side so my front hair dry frizz free. For the rest of the hair, I scrunch them a bit and leave them to air dry. Also I don't brush wet hair, only use a wooden comb after hair is like 80% dry. I also apply argan oil as a leave-in after wash. For touch ups after the wash day, I use clear brow gel to clean up my hairline and apply aloe vera gel just on the ends to smoohen out the split ends. And do look at your local stores for coconut cream and use it as a hair mask twice a month! Made a huge difference for me

I'm a chronic monochromatic black wearer lol so my solution to this is: I usually wear blacks in different textures to offset this. If you wear something that is a cotton material on top and bottom... and the black shades don't match.. one is obviously going to look more faded than the other. However, for example, if you wear a silky black top with black denim, it's different textures and will look effortless and sleek. Same goes for maybe black leather leggings with a black knit sweater. Or a velvet black top with black trousers :)

I love these elegant and minimal styles and I really enjoyed the video♥ However I have to disagree on buying everything oversized. I was kind of into buying things oversized for a while, then I discovered that it doesn't look great on my body because I had a petite figure with less defined shoulders and hips and the clothes just slouched all over the place and I looked like I had clothes handed down to me by older sisters and brothers. The oversized look definitely looks chic on taller women or women with well defined figures, however I wouldn't recommend it to everyone, especially those with petite figures.

Thanks for this video! Been following your IG and YT for a while now, just want to chime in to say you know yourself and express your personal style very well. Kudos for putting together this excellent list of tips. Here's my interpretation of your tips, applying towards myself (Asian, almost 50, 5'3", medium frame, short legs/long torso): 1. 100% agree on hair/nails/makeup. Sign of having spent a tiny bit of effort = good self-care = messaging to the world you're confident even if you're having a blah day. Fake it till you make it, etc. 2. Find your own black. Black's not necessarily the most flattering for all skin tones, ages, time of year, etc. My black happens to be navy for example. 3. Shirts. Love the idea of an oversized shirt, but I can upsize maybe 1 size up? Any more than that, I'd be swamped as I'm not very tall. But 100% agree on ironing out all the wrinkles. Bonus points of wearing a button front shirt? The collar and placket adds structure to your appearance. I always feel 5lbs lighter wearing a shirt vs. a stretchy top. 4. Neutrals/solids/tonal dressing. Totally. You can still incorporate interest via a striped or small patterned top or scarf. 5. Materials/Fabrics. As I've gotten older, I've become a bigger believer in natural materials and fabrics. I have paid for and received good repairs on natural leathers, linens, woolens, etc. Much more sustainable than with PVC/polyester/acrylics. Your upfront investments will yield long term dividends. 6. Blazers - on topic of fit, slouchy is very of the moment, slightly loose is middle of the road and a bit more timeless. I have only just begun thinking about replacing 3 blazers that I've had for almost 10 years because they look a little tight on me now (middle age creeping on...) If I were to buy a boyfriend fit blazer, I'm sure I'll tired of it in 2 years' time. 7. Too tight/bad fit - yep, fit really matters. Not just in terms of tightness, but in how the lines of the garment follow your body, how long your sleeves/pant legs fall, even the width of a cuff. Find a good tailor and invest in that relationship. 8. Jewelry/accessories - love your bling! totally worthwhile to put away some savings and invest in good pieces that will last. I was fortunate in being gifted a very good everyday watch for my uni graduation. I still wear it almost every day. Phew! Sorry for the long post. Your vid just really resonated with me.

This was a great video, thank you!. I have ginger hair and very pale skin, so I tend to wear navy rather than black as black can be quite a draining colour for us redheads. Also, Johnson and Johnson do a spray-on conditioner for kids, that works very well to help create a sleek look for your hair: I use it after blow-drying my hair straight to help with heat damage.

easier steam hack: if you take really hot showers, find a place in the bathroom to hang your shirt or pants and let the steam from the hot shower help with wrinkles. I use this when I'm getting ready to go out and don't have the time to get out the small wrinkles and dig out the iron.

You do understand the difference between a black swearshirt, black denim skirt and black net stockings versus black cotton pantsuit right? I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm making assumptions about your highschool wardrobe. I don't mean to. Just stating the obvious that the color can only go so far in effect the overall look of the outfit.

@@dinakleper8076 Yes, I do...but what does this have to do with anything?
@dinakleper80763 жыл бұрын
@@Mindofliz Because... usually when people talk about wearing only black on highschool they refer to an emo-stage. So the people mocking them for it didn't 'come around' about black clothes... the color was not what they were laughing at. And again, I didn't mean to assume anything about you/your wardrobe (and bullying is wrong eitherway). Just some observation... I'm sorry if it offended you.

I feel like because her shape is VERY slim , I would be conscious of your own body shape , I'm very hourglass figure for example. I love seeing this young lady look so sophisticated and she shows how effortless it is. Classic. There is so much crap out there and don't know who to blame really, i guess the younger designers because they do dictate on what to wear. Not every woman has a limo driver to drive her everywhere and she can be seen wearing a naked dress to an event. This is not realistic to the average woman who has to take the bus/subway. Bravo to you Lydia, these clothes never go out of style and they are functional. By the way love that necklace.

I will strengthen you, I will also help you, I will also uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

this 'all black' won't suit everybody. I look sick in black until I put a lot of make up on. And by 'a lot' I mean A LOT.

In my opinion blondes always look good in black because of the contrast.
@bip53953 жыл бұрын
@@MGyoutube307 I am very pale blond. Believe me. I have to put a lot of make up on, because suddenly my undereyes look darker, I look sickly paler etc.

Instead of black, (you might be cool toned), I’d recommend using brown or gray as your neutral.

I agree.. I am browned skin and really thin. If I wear all black, I'd looked the thinnest. Lol

Everything except the hair is doable for me. Hair straightening for wavy hair like mine has proved disastrous. Unless you have hair, how will you style it? You lose so much hair with chemical straightening. I've kinda made peace with this and decided to keep my waves. They actually look natural, make me look younger and give me an effortless style.

I love your style and I really appreciate your videos. They’ve made a huge difference in my relationship with my wardrobe. Do you ever sell gently used items from your closet? I try to buy second hand items when possible especially for high quality staples. I’m about your size and I’d love to shop the items you rotate out of your collection!

I love all your tips however a better option for fly away hairs can be found in the Black hair care section. Every black woman can tell you how to tame those. I learned a lot working out of a black hair saloon for a few weeks while doing a hair car research study. Also any tips for larger women?

Thanks. I buy clothes shoes and bag at the thrift shop.. people who don't know me think I'm rich but my wardrobe costs less than my husband's knickers.. it really doesn't matter if you don't have money. I want to look rich not because I want to look down on poor people. I just want to express my inner wealth even if I'm making ends meet. You don't have to sacrifice your budget for necessities buying expensive stuffs just so you can impress others. You can look classy even if you're dirt poor. Just know where and when you can buy great stuffs at a bargain.

There is a German brand (don’t know if they ship worldwide) called Hallhuber that sells really classy, beautiful and feminine clothes for an acceptable price. They have beautiful fabrics such as cashmere, alpaca wool and silk.

I stalk the Aritzia sale section. I've got $128 virgin wool and cashmere skirts for $30 and a virgin wool and cashmere winter coat for $175 that was originally nearly $500. It helps to buy out of season so I bought the winter coat in July. focusing on natural fabrics is also a good way to always look expensive, they keep nicer and last longer.
