Idk why but my retainer never stopped hurting, my orthodontist said "The pain should stop in about a week and 3-4 weeks later I'm literally losing sleep because it hurt so damn much. This was a couple years ago and my teeth are back to how they were before braces because even after getting new retainers made it just never stopped being painful.

This was literally me. My retainer gave me horrendous mouth ulcers. Like, all along my gum line and inner cheeks but my orthodontist wouldn't listen to me when I addressed the issue at every appointment. So, I stopped wearing it. Did some of my teeth shift a bit? Yes, but my new dentist agrees with my choice and has never tried pushing braces on me like the last one did.

I don’t if it would help any, or if you’re interested in trying your retainer again, but I think that they make black light disinfecting chambers now for them that you can use at home. This would ensure that germs are being killed. I haven’t gotten one yet though because I’m a bit skeptical about the fact that I’m using a device that kills germs with radiation on the thing I put in my mouth, but I figured that this might be helpful.

I actually wore my retainer (but would still forget occasionally because yay, ADHD ✌️) But my jaw and everything was just completely fucked after braces and I ended up with an edge to edge. My orthodontist didn't believe me at all when I said I was wearing it and would constantly be super condescending to me. I cried in his office once because he also didn't believe me when I said I was wearing the elastics every day (God I hated those horrible things.) So he made me get my braces taken off early for "not cooperating." I've been to a different person in recent years (two new dentists.) And still friendly with my surgeon, and they've all agreed that he messed up my mouth and it shouldn't look like it does now. I now have to wear a mouth guard every night due to TMJ and I'm not able to get surgery to fix it. I considered Invisalign, but it would only help straighten out everything after a while, not fix my jaw or alignment.

My issue was that I'll remove anything uncomfortable when I sleep, so after weeks of waking up almost every day and finding my retainer taken out and placed back in its case on my night stand, I had to gave up. I do the same thing with earplugs. Had to have my family confirm that they've seen me do it first-hand multiple times lol, I'm weirdly responsive in my sleep.

15 years after braces I’m getting clear braces again. My orthodontist said it’s because my tongue’s resting position is too far forward and has been pushing my teeth out of place. He gave me an exercise to fix it so I can have straight teeth after the process! Hold a cheerio to the roof of your mouth with your tongue until it dissolves. Should also fix jaw tension.

This is me with my chiropractor. It takes me about 90 minutes to get all of my back exercises done, and i’m supposed to do them everyday. But with no will to get out of bed and even eat during the day, it’s hard. Then I go to to an appointment and he yells at me for not doing my exercises. I’m glad that he keeps me in check, but I always feel so guilty and hate myself for not doing the one thing I was told to do for them.

Been years that I haven’t worn my retainers and my teeth are actually still straight, though a few at the bottom are just misaligned, but not crooked, and I don’t need braces again. My former orthodontists told me to wear them all day for a month or two, and then switch to just at night. But they didn’t say wear them forever. Overtime, your teeth will naturally shift, I guess, especially before getting wisdom teeth. Though some teeth will be somewhat misaligned, they aren’t crooked, it’s literally natural. I got my braces off at 17, and it’s been 3 years. I still have a good smile.
