Little addendum to hand-to-hand-combat: If possible, fight in water. Even when your opponent is standing in just an inch deep water he'll take drowning damage while he's on the ground due to exhaustion. I thought there'd be a section about how weapon weight affect fatigue loss when attacking, but this mechanics vid is still great without covering that tiny detail. I'll take my time to watch your other mechanic vids aswell. I hope they'll back up my morrowind knowledge with actual numbers as this one did. Maybe I'll even find some strange mechanics (like how telekinesis affects lockpicking and melee spells) which I did not know of yet.

Hey, I figured you should know that there is one weapon that comes close to the Ebony Staff in enchantment value: The Ebony Scimitar from Tribunal, the non-enchanted version has an enchantment value of 80, just 10 shy of the Ebony Staff's 90. You could squeeze that into an annotation or something.
@LyleShnub7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, you're absolutely right! I'll heart your comment or whatever it's called to signal boost this.
@Valkod237 жыл бұрын
I'd also like to point out that the Ebony Staff is more geared towards being used as the 'Magic Machine Gun' via Cast When Used effects are in play since caster players will try and keep their distance, and the Ebony Scimitar is more for the Cast When Strikes effect is used so the effect is applied each successful attack. You could mention the benefits of enchanting magnitudes on a different video if you haven't already. Short blades might use weaker effects since they get applied more often, bringing their potential damage up, and stuff like a Daedric Battle-Axe would get a really big hard-hitting effect for that over-kill value. If it hasn't been covered in any of your guides yet, do make sure to mention how the Cast When Strikes effect is pointless for bows and they're better off with Cast When Used, especially if a new player decides to enchant a Daedric Longbow that's say, been given to them by that tucked-away Hlaalu counciler when finding that Ebony Mine. I'm trying to avoid too much spoilers here.
@LyleShnub7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I get you. Eventually I'd like to make a guide dedicated entirely to enchanting being as it's, in my opinion, one of the coolest things about having a late-game character. I'm sort of formulating a list of things I'd like to cover in it when I DO get around to it and I'll totally include all this.
@Valkod237 жыл бұрын
You should also mention that for Constant Effect buffs, it might be better to do a 1-x amount to get more out of the spell, barring a massive drain skill effect for the absolute mix-maxing. Let's say I'm about to take on Gedna Relvel in Tribunal, who has a spell that does 100-200 points of Fire, Frost, and Poison damage and I'm playing a Nord wearing the Dragonbone Cuirass, all I'd need then is a way to reach 100% poison resistance and only her melee attacks would be able to hurt me then. By setting it with 1-x, I could re-equip the piece of gear over and over until I got the highest amount possible. I know this is all pretty standard knowledge to long-term Morrowind players, but these videos are meant for newer players, and they are going to need all the help they can get with Morrowind. Not to mention the value of Cast When Strikes and offensive Cast When Used effects start to diminish in the expansion packs because of all the amounts of spell reflect. That last part is why I actually use a mod that changes all instances of ability-induced Spell Reflect into Spell-Absorption, so playing something like a Battlemage or offensive caster isn't so hair-raising.

Your videos are an inspiration. I decided to give Morrowind a serious try(for the 10th time but we'll ignore that) and these videos have helped me the most out of anything. Some people prefer to go into these types of games blind, but I personally enjoy the research that is involved whenever I first start them and your videos explain the best out of the mechanics than most other videos while keeping the story unspoiled. Other videos are often unorganized, incomplete, don't contain a satisfying amount of research into the topic, or encourage outright exploits. With your videos I was able to make a satisfying character, and I am getting quite far into the game; I was able to go into various shrines near the north of the map and successfully fight off against multiple daedric cultists, atronachs, and a necromancer and dremora lord for a Fighters guild quest and it was far more challenging and rewarding than anything I have done in Oblivion or Skyrim. I am more comfortable playing the game than ever before and you're pretty much the reason behind this. Thanks for these videos.

IDK if you or anyone else will see this, but I have an argument against always use best attack. Damage types affect how you move in combat. Using axes? You'll need to stand in place to ready a chop. Blades? Great for circling around since they slash well. Spears? The range is great, but god help you if you don't have room to backpedal. It might not be a huge deal but I think it factors into the gameplay enough that use best attack is slightly cheaty.

@LyleShnub6 жыл бұрын
Is your highest melee skill at 15? If you're gonna be a melee character, it's ideal to have one at 30 minimum if it's your first time playing. Anyway, there's a couple good long blades you can get early on. If you head out of Seyda Neen and take the left fork in the road (West, away from the Silt Strider) you can get an enchanted long blade from a wizard who falls from the sky onto the road. There's also a Sword of White Woe inside of the Balmora guard towers. Should be in the Balmora Eastern Guard Tower according to uesp. I think it's on top of a wardrobe, a little hidden.
@bensosnowski11282 жыл бұрын
Unless you it is your first hour playing morrowind, I recommend NOT changing the option of “always do best attack”. If you want to play an RPG and not an action adventure game. The game teaches you to use each weapon effectively through it’s better and worse attacks. With spears the chop and slash do almost no damage. Thrusting does high damage. How do you thrust? By moving forward or backwards. So the game is teaching you that if you use a spear, you want to be kiting back and forth for your attacks. This is great, because with the long attack range of spears, you can theoretically kite back and forth forever and never get hit (assuming you and your opponent have equal movement speed). Standing still and spamming chop with a spear, as expected, is a poor choice.

I always found Morrowind's combat system to hold more true to the reality of fighting. Every miss with an attack is your opponent shifting themselves in whatever way dodges the attack. From a simple shift of the hips to a full flip, use your imagination as to how they just doged your attack. In Oblivion and Skyrim your opponents all fight as if they are in the heaviest of armor(s), just letting you hit them without trying to shift their stance/body which, does not hold true to those who use lighter armor(s) or no armor. If I am wearing no armor, I am going to do everything in my power to keep my distance/avoid any strike against me and either try to punish my opponent(s) or just run away if I have no chance of winning.

What I don't like about Morrowind is that halberds have poor chop and slash damage - these weapons were designed to do exactly that, on top of being able to thrust. I would be okay if spears did more thrusting damage than halberds but in return halberds should have more flexibility. What I always wanted to do with halberds is to charge someone using a thrust attack, then run back using a slash attack, then thrust and slash repeatedly until my enemy is dead. Also the spear skill should have been renamed to polearms, because that's exactly what these weapons are. Another missed opportunity by Bethesda is that they didn't put one handed spears into the game, with the same attack animations as swords and axes but obviously the best damage would have been the thrust attack, with slash and chop depending on the type of spearhead used.

The only thing that really bothers me about this combat system is using bows and arrows, the players skill should complement whether or not they miss their shot or not, not by some random chance. If its off target, no damage at all, if it aims straight for the head and you see it going through the enemies head, that should be maximum damage, especially when it aint that easy to get a head shot anyway, especially in long distance.
@LyleShnub5 жыл бұрын
Yeah it can certainly be annoying, but if you've played more stat focused games it's not all too far fetched of a concept. A lot of CRPGs, older MMOs, and some ARPGs (Path of Exile, I think) have hit chances and this is kind of just a first person version. Anyway, if you're on PC, you can just use console commands to set your marksmanship skill like 300 and you'll never miss a shot regardless of the enemy's strength unless you get massively debuffed somehow. Higher weapon skills only affect your chance-to-hit so you don't have to worry about your damage becoming super overpowered.

Before harder fights (or during if you have the defense) you can use spells and enchantments to buff up your hand-to-hand. With enough buffs, you should be able to knockout anything with one punch. The downside is that it's a lot of preparation and even then that same amount of preparation would get you better returns with a regular weapon build.

Lyle Shnub Alrighty! Will do, already for my h2h to like lvl 80- something? And im still in balmora doing quests for the mage guild, the fighters guild was too hard lol So i was thinking about enchantments for stuff, Are there many "unarmored" class clothes i can wear? So far i only found shirt, pants, and shoes. And is there even a "hand to hand" enchantment?
@LyleShnub6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you can always wear regular clothes that don't count as armor. In addition to those three, there's gloves, robes, skirts, belts, and miscellaneous trinkets (two rings and an amulet). The thing is that you can wear armor on top of those clothes (save for the shoes and gloves) so by going unarmored you also miss out on equipment slots that could be used for enchanting. The "Fortify Skill" enchantment will let you access "Fortify Hand-to-Hand". When you go to apply the enchantment you'll be prompted to select which skill you want to fortify. This also means that buying any "Fortify Skill" spell will let you create enchantments/spells for any skill. So you only need to buy one once you get to the Tribunal expansion.

Lyle Shnub Oh shit! I totally forgot about jewelry. Glad to know you can wear more than one ring lol I guess i should just watch your enchantment video if i wanna learn about enchantment, huh? Thanks for all the information my dude! You're doing us newbies a huge favor lol

try this: setfight 100 Make sure you target the npc you want to affect once you open the console menu and before you enter the command. Hopefully this is what you were asking for. Much love

Well as someone playing through it myself. Its annoying that Im very physically connecting my weapon to the enemy, yet the game decides Im not landing. This is taking consideration the tips in this video. Its still annoying. Not only that but Speech is also annoying. While I get that theres a formula behind it, it still feels so out of my control. Same with lockpicking... Im glad that Oblivion has at least some balance between Luck and skill, even people complain about mini games. And mind you what veterans who explain this stuff fail to understand is that they have all the knowledge of what and where to get things so of course they know how to get around the things probably annoyed them too. Just be patient with New players trying to go through it blind while also trying to get at least a basic understanding of why everything is. And New players need to be patient too. All told though. Im still having a blast playing Morrowind.

Just saying. You can play Morrowind on android. Ask me for the easy tutorial
@naarelservs97135 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you can. For some reason my computer refused to play Morrowind, so I downloaded it on my phone. It's great, I'm having a lot of fun, though I'm absolutely not the best lol

I miss SPEARS ! Fucking Bethesda puts them in Morrowind and does not thave them in Oblivion or Skyrim. Whats a Argonian without a spear ? High Acrobatics skill lets you jump over people with super good range they cant get you lol

everyone's problem seems to be with not being able to hit anything but I've seen nothing about the enemies being so spongy that you have to spend several minutes just hacking away to kill a fucking cave dweller.

I'm uninstalling this shit game right now. Why hide hours of content behind the worst combat system ever? I'm going back to tabletop.
@LyleShnub5 жыл бұрын
I always thought of Morrowind's combat to actually be kind of similar to tabletop games, though maybe moreso older RPGs with hit chances. Heck, I think even some newer games still have chance-to-hit stats. I'm thinking stuff like most CRPGs and I think even Path of Exile does. Anyway, if you want, you can always use console commands to just buff up your weapon or spell skill to 300. You'll never miss or fail an action, and as is shown in this video, it doesn't affect your damage
@j.copache47885 жыл бұрын
@@LyleShnub Wow, what a helpful guy. Thanks, bruv, I'm definitely gonna try that when I reinstall Morrowind in like... two years.
