I just don't understand how can a lot of people come to a FUNERAL DOOM METAL video and say something like "Play it at 2x speed and it gets better" or "Now let me go back to my CC". Frankly, don't people even care to see beforehand the genre of the music video they're going to play? When I search for the FUNERAL DOOM METAL tag on KZbin I know exactly what I'm looking for: long, long, LOOOOOOONG, melodic songs with cavernous vocals and excruciatingly heavy atmosphere. And that's what I'll get. Now, when I want music with more speed, or more energy, I go and search for black or death metal. That is, I respect every music genre for what it is. All this said, great song and great band!

+Wint Herr Well, maybe you can help me out. I love, the tone many bands in this style has, but it's too slow for me to listen to while playing fast paced games and working. I'm looking for a band, or songs in the very least, wich are faster in the pace than this. but "heavy" like it too. For refference, something around the tones of the band "Girugamesh"s "Drain" i love the double pedals going, and the "heavier" theme of it, the synth draws from it though. Another song wich i like, and would to find more similar to is "Distance"s "Headstrung" Wich is much slower, and got a heavy "drive" to it. Thanks in advance.
@wintherr35278 жыл бұрын
Maybe you're looking for atmospheric/melodic death metal? I mean, bands such as Hacksaw to the Throat, Scar Symmetry, Gorguts, Ade, Nile? Or maybe, experimental death metal bands such as Portal, Mitochondrion, Swallowed, Antediluvian and Irkallian Oracle? For me these latter bands are perfect for relaxation and study, since they're not as fast as death metal nor as excruciatingly slow as funeral doom.
@YainMx8 жыл бұрын
Wint Herr Of the bands you listed to me there *Pulls out notepad* I've listened to three songs, at random from each band. and, most of them, were a no for me, though the intro to "Wastelands" from Hacksaw, and scar symmetry's Morphogenesis and the illusionist, are added to my playlists. Not quite what i was looking for, but something to have in the background while working around. Most of it, were either too fast on the drums, to grovely in the vocals or just flat out not my style. I should probably point out, the fact that I've never really listened to death metal, or anything up in the genre, closest would probably be "Cradle of filth" a few years back... What you reccomended, was heavy, sure. But not quite the kind of "heavy" i'm looking for, i want something that sounds clean, but got a strong drive to it, hence "Drain" and "Headstrung" Oh, well. Onwards with my quest i guess! Take care.

To compose certainly. Minimalism is its own skill. With the shreddy stuff honestly once you get to a certain picking speed you can just run up and down scales and no one will notice
@markhynes1940 Жыл бұрын
@@jamesduffy7549Exactly. Shredding for the most part is more about showing off one's guitar prowess, which is why as a drummer and bass player I've never really cared for it much. Music like this on the other hand is all about creating a strong sense of atmosphere, to evoke powerful emotions and mental images, which makes it much more of an experience in my eyes.
@jamesduffy7549 Жыл бұрын
@@markhynes1940 I've never had a drummer or bass player care how fast I can sweep pick but they've all cared if I can play in time and tight, something alot of the guys who just focus on shredding ignore. You get guys who can rip all kinds of scales in their bedroom but get lost with a simple time sig or key change with a band. Same with the audience, they'll be mildly impressed if I pull out a mad solo but if I've been playing out of key or out of pocket for the whole song leading up to it they're already at the bar by the time we get to the solo and no ones even there to be impressed.

Normally with fast metal, I think of violence, hatred, torture, and hell. But with this slow and reflective take on metal, it feels more grounded and personal. It makes me think of sickness, cancer, loss, and hunger. It evokes a completely different feeling, and I think it's fantastic.

A song that can be played by someone who has never touched a drum in their life.

I've read that playing slow can actually be challenging in its own way in that it will be very revealing of a drummer's bad timing.
