I`ve been a sax player for almost 66 years, but I have always played with dots, and improvising has always been totally confusing to me. I have watched many many KZbin videos with many different Sax Tutors describing how to improvise, but they always rush through how to improvise and I find that I am more confused. I really like the way that you pass on your ideas in a relaxed way. Congratulations for the way that you explain things. Look forward to watching more videos.

Im the other way around I can improvise but struggle with the dots, they get in the way of what my ear/ mind wants to hear. If that makes any sense.

@lyndenblades Im liking the way you are presenting this knowledge. Im self taught and run out of ideas, Ive got to go back to basics. Somehow Ive got away with it for 40 years, so Ive got my sound and few tricks but need to knuckle down somewhat. Im in the middle of moving but will be chipping in some coffers as soon as Im settled. Jamming to old skatalite tunes is my usual genre but I need to broaden my horizons.

@ Hi and thank you. Well, you say that you have “got away with it” but I suspect that you are a very capable player because you can’t fake it! And you’re right to target the basics and get them down. On my website saxmadesimple all my KZbin videos are there and there’s a search function for any topic. I’d recommend picking a subject like 251’s or Harmonic minors and making sure you have those things in all keys. Hope this helps 🤝🤝😎😎🎷🎷

For me the things that makes you stand out from allll the other online sax teachers is that you really care by replying to all the comments and that is HUGE!!! Also the type of content you putting out is simple easy to follow and very effective. I really love the way you show the patterns and then give examples of how to use them. No other sax teacher does this! I been through a lot of online teachers and you are by far the best. Thank you for all the time and effort that goes into making all these super use full lessons. My Monday night jam night is going to be awesome from now on!! 😄

Hi Leland, I watched this and was inspired between this and the apps video. So I have a used Ipad on order to work with band sesseions jazz (no android). I am a real novice when it comes to music theory and in my limited sax journey am just beggining to demistify ( at least watching you ) how to improv... So I am wondering if you have any very simple instructions or direction for practicing scales and some of the improv (like blues) that you demode so that I do not get overwhelmed and can progress using your improv suggestions and the app. I read music now and am starting to want to do those kinds of things but I want to start simple with the tool. If not no biggie but I really want to try your methods with the limited time I have and at a non theorist level. Thanks Len
