Nice video, Hon! You probably now already know as I'm late to the party 😄, but here is how to pronounce skjoldhamn: ski yold...now say as one syllable. Ham just as you know it. Skjoldhamn together is two syllables. Strongest on first.

Yes, I do. I'm old now and I'll say what's in my heart. Please consider Einstein's rule to take no offense where none is intended. He said it's the mark of a small mind. I wouldn't want to be known for that, but rather for love and for being open to others. And also please do not tell me what to do. I control myself fine and have wonderful friends despite my use of endearments. It's okay that you don't care feel the same way. It takes all of us to make the world go 'round and it would be a bore if we were all the same.

Very nice presentation. I am going to make this hood and water proof it with Beeswax, not because of history or cosplay but because I would like to have a rain hood that I can place over a rain jacket. If this works out well I will make a tunic and waterproof it as well.

Thanks! I have not used beeswax on clothes before. However, I have put beeswax on linen as a medieval version of cling wrap for jars. Just be cautious, too much beeswax will make your hood quite stiff when trying to wear it.

@@LynneFairchild Thanks for the reply. For a rain hood stiff may be good. I will have either a fleece or wool hood to put it over.

Thank you so much for putting this together! I have a question regarding the mention of seam allowances at 5:34. It looks like the only place where that matters when cutting out my fabric is the face slit at 19:20. Is that correct? I don't need to add 1/4" to any of my dimensions in the pattern? This is my first sewing project in 10 years so I'm making sure I'm not missing something :)

With seam allowance, I think it depends on the type of fabric being used. For example, if you're using cotton, then there's a good chance it won't unravel much. This means that you can have a very small seam allowance. However, if you're using linen or wool (which can easily unravel and fray), I would add more of a seam allowance, so that you have space to roll over the edges to prevent fraying (or to use a serger to finish the edges of the fabric). What I mean by rolling over all of the fabric edges, please look at 23:57 of the video. For an idea of what the underneath side will look like with the edge fabric tacked down (the seam sewn, then the edges folded over and tacked down), please look at 30:58 at: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jniriJd-fpmhlcU Hope this helps! Happy sewing!

Is the 30" size suitable for an adult male? I will say I'd like it to be a little more loose around the face than your red hood was on you. Should I make it a little larger than 30"?

The red hood was actually made for my son, who at the time, was smaller than me. Sidney Eileen has a detailed pattern layout for either 24x36 inch or 30x45 inch wide fabric: sidneyeileen.com/2015/12/08/lined-skjold-harbour-style-hood-wip1/ On the link below, it lists sizing (in cm) for a medium and a large hood. Hopefully these pages help with your measurements. dawnsdressdiary.wordpress.com/2014/11/02/skjoldehamn-hood-a-new-attempt/

You've made a lovely tutorial. I would like to help with your pronunciation though, if I may. These are Scandinavian words so, your "j" has a "y" sound. For example Jorvik is pronounced "yore-vik", likewise Skjoldehamn is pronounced with the "y" sound (sk-yold-ham). I hope I've helped you as much as you've helped me❤

It looks like you got plenty of explanations of how to pronounce the letter "j" in Germanic languages. I'd like to supply a guide to the French pronunciation of "oi"; it sounds like "wah." "Coif" is a French word and should be pronounced "kwahf."
