If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me
For I must be travelin' on now
There's too many places I got to see
If I stay here with you girl
Things just couldn't be the same
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
And the bird you cannot change
And this bird you cannot change
Lord knows, I can't change
Bye and bye baby, it's been sweet love, yeah yeah
Though this feelin' I can't change
Please don't take it so badly
'Cause Lord knows, I'm to blame
And if I stay here with you girl
Things just couldn't even be the same
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
And the bird you cannot change
And this bird you cannot change
Lord knows, I can't change
Lord help me, I can't change
Lord I can't change
Won't you fly high free bird yeah

Duane Snodgrass I agree. To this day I play this footage to old metalheads such as myself but was always very diverse and I got to tell em to hold on during the mellow phase and watch. After countless views my face STILL melts when Allen cuts loose. And they have all heard Free Bird but to watch the magic being performed is a whole different element baby!Long live LYNYRD SKYNYRD!

I was in the USAF stationed at RAF Bentwaters and went to this concert. There were four of us about 50 fifty feet from the stage. We started off with a blanket size piece of land and by the end of the concert you couldn't move. It would take 3 hours just to go and piss. I had a Triumph Vitesse and when the concert was over I begged my friends to stay awake with me while I drove the 90 miles back to base. Nope those assholes were sleeping before I got out of the parking lot. It was the only time in my life I fell asleep driving. I hit the curb and it shook me awake and I had enough adrenaline in me to make it back to base without falling back to sleep.

Anyway, not to be a downer, great story, you're lucky as hell to have seen the real LS live, this was an epic performance.

Because it was only for the Rolling Stones. And when they did they mentioned Mick Jagger got really mad! But Free Birds a kick ass song! I would of done the same!

I played drums in a deathcore band. My dad was like “why do you play this crazy music”. I was like it’s just really modern heavy metal. Pops tells me that skynyrd is his favorite band and is better heavy metal, even better than Black Sabbath. That’s the moment that I realized that he was right. This is heavy metal of the 70’s and that I will probably be the same way when future heavier metal comes out. Love this song and performance. My favorite bit is all the people laying down on lsd or opium or whatever the hell you old geezers were doing. The part where the person is tiptoeing over the people laying down cracks me up every time.

Who's into Trivia? If you'll notice, Ronny Van Zant is barefooted. Why? He likes to feel the vibrations of the stage because, back then, the Amps were just put on the stage and not hung in the air from the ceiling. Also. While they were waiting on Ronny, Al Collins and Ronnie Gaines started playing and just having fun. Gary Rossington already had the bird sound, but didn't have no where to use in a song. They came up with the slow start, played with it and getting more up beat and said let's have some fun. Then, Freebird, as it's known to day, was born. These guys are just JAMMING LIKE HELL.

That was Allen Collins' solo - the tall, skinny drink of water in red - and it was maybe his most glorious (public) moment with Skynyrd. If Ronnie hadn't instructed him otherwise he might have kept playing till he dropped from exhaustion. Allen survived the plane crash, but all in all his story was probably the most tragic of any of them. RIP Allen. And Ronnie, Steve, Leon, and Cassie. Dean, too.

Ruben, I am not a man who spend his life on youtube, because insanity, trolls, bad people are too present. But...sometimes I find a jewel...your video is one of them. it is positive, fun, and original. Capturing yourself disvovering such an huge song, such an amazing band, words miss, is a great idea. You have a good face, you smile...thanks. Indeed this band, at this time was something that words cannot describe. Spend some time around Allen Collins, and you will discover, if not done yet, how sad has been his life, and this is by contrast about all people who has known him, and all of them report a very humble, kind, "simple man" person, over talented, who had just one thing in mind : music, music and music again, and lot of work. Ronnie was not an easy man with the work of the band, ronnie was the leader and placed the level very high. Try to find the moment when Allen recorded the solo, ther are stuff on the net about that, it is ..wow ! thanks for that. With this video, I know that we would be friends...by the way try to find Neil Young playing Rockin in a free world, at Saturday Night Live, introduced by Bruce Willis, and please post the same video when you discover it...I would like to see your face listening and watchin this master piece...

Agree with your comments! You missed one important fact: the guitar work at the end is one guitar! Look up Allen Collins, there is a track out there of just his guitar work from the studio version & its mind blowing as well!! Ayreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down - The Source (2017) Lyrics A silence so deafening As the stillness surrounds us A rush of fear is surging through our veins A shadows so menacing Darkens our horizon What have we done Is this the end When death descends Don't say I didn't warn you You'll recall my words The day that the world breaks down Don't claim you didn't see it Are you prepared to die The day that the world breaks down I can't believe we're in danger I can't believe that we've let it come this far We must prepare for the changes We must prepare for the day that the world breaks down Don't expect we will survive this There will be no way back The day that the world breaks down Don't assume it's all a nightmare Won't stand a chance The day that the world breaks down I can't believe this is happening I can't believe we are headed for a fall We must prepare for the blackening We must prepare the day that the world breaks down I can feel it in my heart I can see it in the stars Behold it's all been foretold The future unfolds The day that the world breaks down I always knew this would happen Not many believed in my cause I'm sure they will all turn to me now I'm sure I'm the only one Who can save us From this fate I always knew they would need me Not many showed faith in my plans I'm sure they will listen to me now I'm sure that I'm the only one (Starblade) Who can save us (Starblade) from this fate Yes I believe you are the answer Yes I agree you are the key Your future lies in the heavens Our future lies beyond (the stars) (the Starblade) We will save them (Starblade) We will save them (Starblade) From this fate 01110100 01110010 01110101 01110011 01110100 01010100 01001000 00110001 I must've been blind I mean it should've been obvious Straight out of my mind To rely on a cold machine The signs were strong I know I was wrong I know they will hate me now Uh but I will come clean And destroy this cold machine This is not over Not as long as we're alive If we join our forces We will make it This is not over As a race we must survive And in the end we will cross this bridge together We're losing this fight And yes we got ourselves to blame I guess it seems right In the mind of the cold machine I'll fix every flaw I'll break every law I'll tear up the rulebook If that's what it takes You will see I will crush this cold machine This is not over I am sure we will find a way Out of this desperate situation This is not over Even if it all seems hopeless For in the end we'll cross this bridge Together I can feel it in the air The signs are everywhere Communications' ground to a halt Traffic has stopped Defenceless and frail Planes crashing down We're getting closer to the day the world breaks down

Check out Workin For MCA live at Rockpalast and T for Texas live at Knebworth or the One More From The Road versoon. Both have just amazing guitar solos in them. Also, if you haven't, check out Jimi Hendrix Killing Floor, live in Stockholm Sweden. Just absolutely amazing.

Skynyrd opened for the Rolling Stones that concert, and they were forbidden to go to the frontal part of the stage (you can watch the "tongue" form), because it was reserved for the Stones. But the band went there and owned it.

That’s what happens when you piss off a red neck from the West Side of Jacksonville, FL. Ronnie showed them that day.

Absolutely mental. Knebworth packed to the rafters on a blazing hot summers afternoon in 76. Classic rock. Amazing guitar work.

Billy Powell was a roadie for the band. When he heard Freebird he thought it needed an introduction and recorded one. Another roadie gave it to Gary Rossington and Billy went from roadie to band member that day. I met Billy and he was a very kind, humble man.
