This was from a time when music actually meant something. I like seeing younger people's reactions to music that was made long before they were born or even before their parents were born. I've read so many negative comments on other channels against "Boomers". One thing that is so very true about us Boomers, we had the best music of all time.
@cubnation2 жыл бұрын
@B L, Very well said, and I couldn't agree with you more. I mean beyond the Beatles, we had CCR, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, Hendrix, Joplin, Heart, the Doobies--I could be here all night! The music takes each of us back to our memories, good and bad. It was palpable! What a time to be young. I am also so glad to see a young person, who is obviously so intelligent, loving "our Boomer music." The way she explains how she feels about how it affects her is so refreshing. I said this about her before; she is an "old soul." ✌✌

During the summer I'd leave the house and meet up with my friends at 9am and my parents wouldn't see me again till the street lights came on and I rolled through the front door hungry, ragged, tore up, bruised, sometimes bloody and covered in dirt from tromping through the woods, swimming, fishing, wrestling, climbing trees, riding my bike for miles, engaging in epic battles with sticks and snow balls and forts and...well you get the idea 😂 We didn't get our first color t.v. till I was 7? 8 years old maybe? When this song was originally written, the music to the song was written by a then 17 years old Allen Collins (the tall guitarist in white that plays the ripping lead at the end) and the lyrics to the song written at the ripe old age of 20 by lead singer Ronnie Van Zant. The song intially came out a few years after it was written on their debut album Pronounced Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1973 and would later be part of their brilliant live album recorded in Atlanta in 1976 called One More From The Road. To this day, Freebird remains one of the most iconic songs in rock history along with Zepplin's Stairway To Heaven and a few others. Not bad for a couple of high school dropouts which is what Collins, Van Zant, and most of the band all were.

I watched a movie about the stompers, anyway while they were recording in Alabama supposedly the piano player at the time was a roadie for them, but supposedly the band went to lunch, when they returned to the studio they heard what was the beginning of this song being played on the piano, turned out he was like concert pianist, and eventually they made him a official band member.

Lynyrd Skynyrd was formed in Jacksonville FL in 1964 by five high school buddies Ronnie Van Zant (singer), Allen Collens and Gary Rossington (guitar), Larry Jungstrom (bass), and Bob Burns (drums). The bands name comes from a gym teacher they knew in school, Leonard Skinner. The band went through a number of personel changes over the years, then in 77 suffered a major tragedy when they were involved in a plane crash that killed several of their members including Ronnie. They reformed in 87 with Ronnie's little brother Johnny taking over lead vocals, and still perform to this day though they've officially retired from touring. Collens was severely injured in the crash and further injured in 86 following a bad car accident, he died in 1990. Jungstrom left in 71 and formed the band .38 Special with Ronnie's other brother Donnie Van Zant, died in 2019. Burns left in in 75, retiring from music entirely, died in a car crash in 2015. At present Gary Rossington is the sole original member alive (which is amazing considering his history). The group performing here consists of Ronnie, Allen (the tall guitarist in white), and Gary (the smaller one in black), Guitarist Steve Gaines (red pants, died in the plane crash along with his sister, backup singer Cassie Gaines), bassist Leon Wilkinson (biker, died 2001), piano/keyboard Billy Powell (died 2009), and drummer Artemis Pyle (still alive but split with the band in 91)

Sadly this was the last time Lynyrd Skynyrd was filmed live and this was 3 months and 18 days before the plane crash just a few shows into the Street Survivors tour. This video is awesome but also sad as everyone on stage, with the exception of 2 people (the drummer and Gary Rossington one of the lead guitarists) are all now deceased. Some died in the plane crash, some survived with major injuries. Allen Collins had his car crash and died in 1990, the piano player and the bass player died later as they played in the reformed Lynyrd Skynyrd until their deaths.

That was our graduation anthem. We also cranked it when we were cruzin too. I remember the day of their plane crash. A very sad day.

This is a great song, I rarely like live versions of songs and I wasn't crazy about this one, but they were an awesome band

I love when she says "no one is on their phones"...this, I'm pretty sure was in the 70's...cell phones didn't exist 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

Saw the original Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1975 with Charlie Daniels and Marshall Tucker. Best concert ever. Isn’t it amazing how different the crowds are then from now. We only had phones on the walls at home and we clapped and went crazy at concerts instead of having our phones in the air. Good times.

Yes welcome back, if I may be so bold as to speak for everyone and say you were surly missed. Watching your reactions provides an escape from these times. You could also check out Fall of the Peacemakers by Molly Hatchet the closest anyone has gotten to having their own Freebird.

I would like to recommend this talented Chinese artist Hua Chenyu’s “Bullfighting” song. This is one of his popular song in his latest released 4th album. This song is amazing, he use music to describe the complete Bullfighting scenes. This song was performed in Singer 2020 and he got No. 1 in the competition. Please do reaction video on this interesting MV.

I WAS THERE IN 1977 . THE SHOW WAS CALLED A DAY ON THE GREEN . IT WAS PLAYED AT THE OAKLAND COLISEUM IN OAKLAND CALIFORNIA . THEY ESTIMATED THE CROWD AT 50,000 . 2 MONTHS LATER THEY CRASHED IN THEIR PLANE , THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN GROUNDED . CAUSE THEY BARELY MADE IT DOWN THE FLIGHT BEFORE .

@@donaldvanderlinden1245 wow , you are lucky. I wish I had been born earlier as I was born in 72 and could transport myself back to these times. Things were just simpler then and the music was amazing...

Saw them in Dallas in 1975 played back-to-back with Charlie Daniels Band. Both bands played together on stage. for about the last 40 minutes. What can I say? Saw them again in Mobile Alabama, 6 months before they went down. Best damn rock band in history, will never be surpassed ! God bless their souls and my beloved South!
@kellymarklong4 жыл бұрын
Pink, you need to see the performance of Free Bird when they opened for The Rolling Stones. Story is Mick Jagger told them not walk out on “the tongue” on the stage, which was shaped like The Rolling Stones emblem. Ronnie did it anyway.
@aprildawn31864 жыл бұрын
100 % agree! This is sooo good but the Knebworth performance is even better and the solo goes longer.Allen really put that huge stage to good use and you get to see him do it..The camera work in this performance is in the crowd too much
