Growing up in a small Southern town, we use to have "Field parties" or what we called "Barn Burners". It would include a Bon fire of course. Skynyrd was a staple at these parties along with the Allman Bros. Band, Molly Hatchet, Marshall Tucker etc. I'm 51 now and when I hear these songs I'm flooded with memories of my teen and early twenties. And I so enjoy watching you experience the music of my generation for the 1st time.

My step-neice's 15 year old son committed suicide on a Tuesday. She literally had to be carried in for the funeral, with her feet dragging behind her, as she sobbed uncontrollably. It was the saddest moment I have ever witnessed, until they played Tuedays Gone at the funeral. Her pain was obvious from her wailing as the song played, "Tuesday's Gone...my baby's gone...with the wind". She had come down on him hard for misbehaving. She left the house for a short time and when she came home, couldn't find him. She went outside to look for him, and found him floating in the pond with a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. She blamed herself for his death, and was unconsolable. It's been almost 20 years. The pain and sadness are still reflected in her eyes.

I am an all-in Lynyrd Skynyrd fan, and I still remember the first time I ever heard Tuesday’s Gone. It grabbed me and I was hooked. Before that I’d only heard Sweet Home Alabama and Free Bird, of course, and I went out and bought the album, and every subsequent one as well. When the plane crash happened, I cried because I felt and still feel such a kinship to them and their music. Ronnie Van Zant was LS and the band touring and using the name now pales in comparison. I’m not a young woman anymore but I have a Skynyrd poster on my bedroom wall and anyone who rides in my SRX with me knows they’re going to hear at least a few of their songs. React to T For Texas, the version after Steve Gaines joined them. It rocks the house, Jamel. 😎✌️

I have known this album since its debut. But this song took on a whole new meaning on 9/11. It was a Tuesday and I was at work and all of a sudden everyone I worked with, myself included, starting getting calls from our families. My boss had a tv in his office and we were just huddled around it in shock. I will never forget our first patient of the day was a priest and him giving us all words of comfort. For me Tuesday's gone took on a whole new meaning. God bless all the souls that were lost that day.

Real working man poetry here.... the train, the stone cold motif of fates power, both good and bad. Time that isn’t coming back. Unstoppable like of course, the wind.... these guys rank with the allmans at their best...... very native to heartland incubator of the south land from wh/ rock was born.... freedom was tougher to get down there and in turn seemingly more precious.... hence the bands indep spirit and desire to distance from entanglement..... song rings deep and true.

Like "Ruby Tuesday" by The Rolling Stones, Tuesday in this song is the name of a girl. It's about going away and leaving her behind. Written by lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and guitarist Allen Collins, it's another "I must be going now" song on Lynyrd Skynyrd's first album, similar in theme to "Free Bird." There was a train track near the place where the band rehearsed. The sound of the trains inspired lead singer Ronnie Van Zant to write the first line, "Train roll on, on down the line." www.songfacts.com/facts/lynyrd-skynyrd/tuesdays-gone

According to the bassist Leon Wilkeson, early variations of the song Free Bird began about 1971 when the band was still doing the club circuit and created it as a live performance number. In the studio for their debut album; however, the guitarists were working on Tuesday's Gone around the same time as they were polishing up and laying tracks for Free Bird. So maybe there was some cross-pollination happening in the studio.

What set Skynyrd apart from the slew of Southern Rock acts that emerged was the funk they added to their rock and the gospel the added to their ballads.
