Thanks for sharing this. I had a similar experience, meeting Papa V in 2002 shortly before his passing. I have a copy of his book signed by Lacy, Johnny, Donnie and the 38 band, Jimmie, Tammie and Jane who has been a dear frynd to me for almost 20 years. There's just something about being a Skynyrd fan..

AirGunWarriors If it wasn''t that important, then why ask ? You see, for some people, like the elder Van Zants,, money and million dollar homes weren't that important. You are correct, that any of their sons could and did offer to buy them any house they chose. What was important to Sister and Lacy was holding on to the the place where they raised their family, the memories there and holding on to their roots. You can hear this repeated at 15:09 I don't know if you have ever even known people like they were, because they were rare. I lived in a neighborhood not far away. You would often find Mr Lacy hanging out at local filling station. back when filling stations employed mechanics and fixed cars and actually pumped gas for their customers complete with a free wind shield wash and an honest " Thank You " Mr & Mrs Van Zant lived like they wanted to, they didn't want to live behind locked gates, they wanted to be available to all the adoring fans, just like you are seeing in this video. They are both gone now but they leave behind many wonderful, memories.

I’m just looking at this video and it really shows me a lot about the vanzant family on how very nice they were by letting in total strangers into there home and showing them around god bless them that tells me a lot on how that family is in todays world you really can’t trust in anybody because the world is full of crazy’s these people have special kids with a great talent and have suffered tragedy as well but through that dragedy came strength and glory and a future fore there other sons who are very great as well I’ve they must of been very proud parents and have enstiled the values of life in to there children that in itself is something that people today don’t do god bless them may they rest in piece and god bless Ronnie and Donny and Jonny if your out there brother rock on May god bless you and your family we all need values like you have god bless and ty t brink sr

I live in WS Jax, literally right around the corner where they started practicing, in the Paxon area. I was out to dinner last night and Johnny was out with his family and ended up sitting next to the table we were at. I didn't make a scene, just went up when we were done with dinner and quietly said "I do know who you are, and I'm not going to make a big deal but just wanted to say, Hello, and I respect you for not being a douchy celeb and renting the place out, which you could've done. You have a beautiful family and I hope you enjoy your dinner! I have met you before, too, at the cadillac dealership!" He smiles and says "Oh yeah! What's your name again, sweetie?" and I say "I'm Jena." He shakes my hand and says "Well, hello Jena, I'm Johnny!" :) Such a nice guy!

One of Johnny's daughters went to Fletcher Middle School. I met her in a gym class. I was a substitute teacher, more of a babysitter really. That was back in 1996. I was amazed that in a city the size of Jacksonville, FL that I could run into someone who is the daughter of a famous singer in one of my all time favorite bands. That said, Johnny is nothing compared to Ronnie. I'll just leave it at that.

This has brought real tears to my eye's.what an amazing experience this must have been. long live Southern Rock n Roll. My Heart hurts for my country today because all the good are dying and I don't see much future for america. Music is crap and people are crap today and our whole society has gone ape shit crazy. we can't trust anyone anymore period. America needs god back more than ever...these were good god fearing people that raised a great family and today more and more people are creating nothing but garbage and problems for everyone... America needs Rock n Roll... Burn the Ghetto's to the ground and exterminate all this Rap Crap before america is nothing but a memory...

Wayne Taylor. Back in the early 80's my cousin and I lived on the west side, the best side. I was renting a trailer and he bought a fix me-up house, almost a shack on Plymouth Ave just off Foracre Rd. I think. I remember an old mom and pops grocery store in that neighborhood. I always thought it was a strange place for a store. Just a few blocks from the VanZants.

@ AirGunWarriors; Lacy would have never been happy anyplace else. Home is where the heart is and there is more heart in this humble home than any mega mansion anywhere, anyplace. When the children were growing up, it was just a normal working class neighborhood. Yes it has deteroriated just like so many other neighborhoods, but there is way too much history in those walls. Too bad there aren't more homes and families like the Van Zants

I wonder if is still standing in 2017, and if so, where it is. I went to Disney around 2007ish, and we stopped by the Firebird café to eat. That was a major disappointment, bars on the windows and some crack head told us it was just a nightclub, that it was a rough crowd and you had to be searched to get in. Lovely. We are planning another trip this year, I'd love to see where they all grew up, and Firebird gardens. Any other places of interest to see?

OLD BAY the old hell house where all the songs were written is now a subdivision. But you can go out on the dock Donnie fished on and the railroad truss where the nuthin fancy cover was taken is right by there. And as far as the house it's being remodeled and fans can rent it and stay in Ronnie's room and they will have a recording studio there as well.
