Awesome tutorial man, one point I discovered after try link anim layers, construnction graph don't have support to Link Anim Layers anymore, you need move to BeginPlay.

I had this problem too, how did you fix it? I connected link anim layers to begin play instead of construction graph but it still didn’t fix it

Thank you so much for this! You seem to have a 4k screen, like me - people always complain about the tiny text when I share my screen, you should definitely increase the UI scale for future tutorials. Another thing, in 5.3 the input mapping method has changed, instead of Input Config you gotta add Input Mapping (IMC_Default) to your experience.

For anyone stuck at 4:50, don't add input config, add Input Mapping instead and just use something like IMC_Default inside. It looks like player mappable input config has been deprecated

Best tutorial about this subject. Also, about 9:53 That Asset manager settings doesn't seem to be necessary. Upon setting the experience definition asset settings in the game feature AND restarting the editor, everything works fine. Reloading the game feature module may work as well.

Yes, I think this is because the Assets manager knows that the Experience we created is of same type so it doesnt list it again since our Experience was subclass of LyraExperienceDefinition.

I was having a hard time trying to understand why it wasn't working, I got an error that wouldn't let me compile in order to create plugins with C++. After an hour of looking around turns out I'll I had to do was install several .NET core files alongside Visual Studios 2019. For some reason Visual Studio Code didn't suffice lol. As a beginner developer thanks for the great tutorial, can't wait to see more !

First of all, I'm glad to help, thanks! And about the C++ problem, I didn't let it clear, but you can totally work only with Blueprints and choose the "Content Only" option. I just encourage everyone to choose working with C++ because this is the next step in a Game Development with Unreal Engine area. You learn BP and then start creating games with both of them together. But good to know that you solve the problem!! Congratulations!! Now you have a setup fully working with C++ ;)

​@@markymarcdabro Open your default hero bp under /game click on B_MannequinPawnCosmetics in the top left corner components section. when you click the component, you will see the events section in the right side. click plus icon near OnCharacterPartsChanged drag your mesh from the components tab and pull a pin from the mesh to add Link Anim Class Layers. also don't forget to change anim class. edit: i also have a problem with the run ability. it can print a text at OnAbilityAdded but nothing happens when at ActivateAbilityEvent. I triple checked everything from the video and it all same.

9:53 The file path in the plugin needs to match or the asset manager will not recognize. Therefore, we need to create a System folder above the experiences folder in the plugin for this to work.

Hey man, in general great tutorial, but it was hard to follow at points because what you say doesn't directly correlate to what is happening on screen so (as a newbie to UE) I had to constantly pause to see what you actually meant , For example at 8:16 you just tell us to "set the default map as this one", while navigating to the tab instantly and without explaining how you got there... I had to pause the video twice to see which tabs you were clicking. Again really appreciate the video, it has helped a lot and you have a lot of potential, just keep in mind that a lot of newbies to UE will be coming to you for information and you want to be as clear as possible, visibly and audibly, so we can follow along with the video without having to pause it.

why is this a complaint? It's one of the benfits of video tutorials. You can pause, slow down, review parts of it and the person making the tutorial doesn't have to say it twice. He also infers at the beginning that you should know these kinds of things already. I can tell you this too.... Lyra project building is not for newbies. This stuff confuses the pros to a degree. It's just we all know it's a good way to be consistent across projects.

Sure! We actually have used the GAS system through the Lyra classes (the jog is an Ability for example) but in a next tutorial we’ll use even more this system!!

Sure! It should be kinda easy, Lyra was made for being modular and customizable. Prob just some abilities that you add, you can have some Shooting features. Try to check the ShooterCore files and compare the configurations that we mande in the tutorial.

Nice vid. Watched it because I want to be sold on starting with a Lyra project but it feels restrictive in how you develop to the point it might become more of a timesink that any custom solutions. Especially in a non-multiplayer environment where most of this boilerplate code cannot show it's true power. I still can't decide if rolling a blank template and setting up GAS from the ground up would offer the freedom I desire though. It's really confusing without actually building two project prototypes first. And that could be weeks/months of just test work.

Hey I found a fix for that error . Open ABP_UnarmedAnimLayer and change the animation . Currently the Jump loop is set inplace of the Jump land. Do it for the Feminine ABP as well.

This looks like a problem when building C++ code. Try using the "Content Only" option man

I found a fix for no input working in 5.3 : in the Pawn blueprint -> LyraHero component -> Default Input Mappings choose IMC_Default to have input work. Not sure where this puts all the other input setup we did, and also doesn't really seem to be how Lyra does it, but it works. Now I am trying to get animation to work and having a huge struggle. If by any chance someone comes upon this and has gotten animation working please comment. I'm at a loss, everything looks setup correctly.

I was able to make it work however its super hacky! definitely wouldn't mind seeing a tutorial with a better way to do it then modding the ranged weapon class

@@jonathantewnes1224 Yea i figured out how to do it as well, but i think the way that the game ability system is set up and the animation blueprints that might be the best way since alot of the underlying locomotion seems to be driven by tags

Great tutorial. After following and managing to get everything working (been using Unreal since 2016) i have some tips for you. Speak slower, and explain what you're doing whilst doing it. Often you mention a custom name you created for a class that people (Since they are watching this video) arent used to hearing, and many concepts are new. Im sure im not the only one pausing every 15 seconds, or putting your playback speed to 75% to have any chance of keeping up. Refering to "this" and "that". When following your tutorial, people follow along, which means that they are in unreal engine and watching their screen whilst listening to you. If you instead of saying "This" and instead for example say: In Default mapping, Set it to IA_Jog. It sucks, but stop using the tabs when making tutorials. Browse to every asset you're going to open through the content browser (specially when you have 9 or 10 assets in tabs at the same time) we dont recognise the different assets by look as you do, because we are new to Lyra (the reason we are looking at your tutorial). Explain "why" and how things are linked. For example, the gameplay tag setup, and whilst you setup the jog action, would've been a great time to break down how things works, the flow of the input mappings to the actual ability. for example. the HeroData connects your pawn, to a set of abilities and inputmappings. the Ability Set, contains game play abilities etc. For example, im still unsure how all the tags are supposed to be used. otherwise good tutorial!

Everything UI looks so small on your high res screen. You should record on native 1080p or even better 720p and upscale to 1080 and then upload.

@@redocykuron Bro, this may be related to some error when building the project. Try opening it in Visual Studio and Debug from there, if you get any errors you can DM me in discord (Tornelli#4688). OR, you can simply use the Game Feature Content Only (the version without C++) it's not a problem if you won't use C++.

So, firstly I'd like to say thank you so much for this tutorial! Very informative and straight to the point! I was able to get everything running like you did in the video and was happy with it but noticed the textures were a bit off on the character...so I made sure to save my work and then closed the project and reopened to see if it would fix the issue. Sadly upon reopening it appears that ALL of the files and progress I made from the video was erased. Does Lyra have an automatic file deletion system for anything that's not inherently already in it's framework? Why did this happen? This was really frustrating because it feels like I just wasted my time a bit lol and it makes me a bit worried of the reliability of this as a starting framework.

Hi Tornelli! I'm wondering if your way to put in the Jog, by substituting the ADS with the custom function, would be affected by the Lyra core update. I mean we went inside the main folders and we modified the properties and the behaviour from there, is there a chance that in future updates our modifications would be overwritten? Shouldn't we do all this inside the Game Feature?

Unfortunately in this case we only have two options (as far as I can think): 1 - Clone the ABP_Base into our GameFeature, modify it and use it 2 - Do just like I did and modify the Original one In both cases we'd be losing the updates... But I confess that the 1st option would be better for the tutorial (I used the 2nd).We'd still be able to get the updates into the Original ABP_Base. But if you manage to reache a better way to add features to the Lyra's ABP, please let me know. And thanks for your attention! Your know what you're doing.

@@tornelli7227 Thank you very much for your quick response. I'm very new to UE5 and I have lots of doubts this is why I'm asking. I think you're right in choosing the 1st option, but I have no clue how many things are connected with it and therefore how many bugs are we going to generate. In the case everything goes well, we could just look at the updates when they comes and cherry pick the improvements if needed. Btw I'm very eager to see your next tutorial, as I'm trying to create an hardcore Survival FPS multiplayer and I'm thinking if Lyra is the way to go or should I do everything from scratch. In the "InputData_BGT" data asset, we defined tags for input actions. The "IA_Jump" input action has the "InputTag.Jump" tag, and the "IA_Crouch" input action has the "InputTag.Crouch" tag. Then, in the "AbilitySet_BGT" data asset, we granted gameplay abilities. The "GA_Hero_Jump" ability has the "InputTag.Jump" tag... but we did NOT grant an ability with the crouch tag. My question is: how are we able to jump AND crouch when the crouch gameplay ability wasn't implemented in the "AbilitySet_BGT" data asset? Great video btw!

Sure! I'll start the next tutorial showing how to add Metahumans!! But in short, in order to add animations you need to create a AnimBP with only the Retarget node, and add it to the Metahuman mesh.

@@tornelli7227 I succeed :), my mistake was i had two didfferents skeleton on my_Hero_Defaut, one was manny (mesh), one was quinn (pawncosmeticcomponent).

Yeah, this is a bug present in the Lyra's Unarmed Layered State, I'm working on a solution and might release in the next tutorial!

Anyone know how to make it work in the FrontEnd? I managed to get the level to show and load in the userfacingexperience but not able to look around with the mouse in the level for some reason.

I had the same problem, in your InputData_ make sure you set input tag to "InputTag.Look.Mouse" and not just "InputTag.Look" That should fix it.
