M. Grandjany: Aria in Classic Style, Milo Harper & LGT Young Soloists

Milo Harper and the LGT Young Soloists perform the beautiful Aria in Classic Style by Marcel Grandjany.

I have performed this with stellar harpists from Maryland to Honolulu and back to San Francisco. The most thrilling performances were when I had the privilege of accompanying Constance Uejio (principal harpist with Honolulu Symphony) during my time as Interim Principal Organist at Central Union Church in Honolulu. Not knowing what resources I might find in a far distant land, as soon as I heard that Connie was a harpist of course I asked if she knew the Aria. It was only after the first performance when I came to know that she had studied with Grandjany. Then I understood why she had an uncommon depth and connection to the composer and this work. During her time of study with Grandjany her father was pastoring a church in upstate New York and would make a trip into Manhattan weekly for lessons. One day she brought a bag of fresh plums to him. "You would have thought he had just received a bag of gold. He was a most gracious little man who was thrilled by the ordinary." An incredible insight and tribute to him wouldn't you say?

I have been hearing this for over 50 years, knowing well its composer, and feel this is the cleanest and most delightful version I have heard. M. Grandjany would be smiling whilst listening, i am certain. Well done guys & gals. Well done.
