Naushad, O.P. Nayyar , Shankar Jaikishan, Madan Mohan, Roshan, Khayyam, Chitragupt, N. Dutta, Iqbar Qureshi, Jaidev and many more did not consider Kishore Kumar as a singer. They rated Rafi sahab as the best.. If so then RDB had the right to consider Kishore Kumar was a better singer.. No need to worry. We must agree that from 1970 - 1975 RDB and Kishore Kumar did give excellent songs.. But if you rate the top 20 ever hindi songs - the list would be dominated by Rafi Sahab only.. LP had a longer and more successful carrier than RDB and LP preferred Rafi Sahab..

Rafi sahab was and will forever be a legend of Indian Cinema. He was a complete singer. There was nothing he could do wrong in singing. If Lata ji is considered foremost amongst lady singers and is deemed perfect, it was Rafi sahab amongst the male singers who could be termed as being on the pinnacle. His songs had a soul infused in them through his voice that made them perfect for the situation, the actors, the mood and the film. It took the entire sequence in the film to a new level. No one can emulate him even now. He was indeed unique. For R D Burman to have said such comments on Rafi Sahab is very very unfortunate. May god forgive R D Burman for this act of sacrilege. Rafi Sahab was such a wonderful human being that he would too have forgiven R D Burman. All i can say is that Rafi Sahab is immortal through his songs. We are indeed fortunate that such an artist and human being took birth in our country.

A very interesting fact, in the late Sixties, a musician named Charanjit Singh invented a new technique in music called Acid House. With the help of it any new tune can be created very easily and this tune always resembles the western music because Acid House was created only for western music. Apart from all the good qualities it was having a drawback also. After creating a new tune with the help of this technique, one cannot be satisfied because a feeling always remains there that some more is still to be done with this tune and this situation persists even after recording the song. RD always used this technique. Now we come to Rafi Saheb. Rafi Saheb always listened to the tune very carefully and accordingly recorded the song whereas RD used to change the tunes very often and Rafi Saheb always made objections. This was the main reason for parting their ways though RD always pointed to other persons to save his skin. Every music director used this technique once or twice but not regularly like RD. Even Naushad Saheb admired it and said that it was good for western music only. It can dissatisfy the Hindustani classical music director. This technique is still being used western music frequently.

R D Burman was was good music director but not the best. He vanished very fast.To day very few people remember RDB. Where as Rafi saab is universal figure in after 44 years of death. Asha is insignificant. All most all bengali music directors were biased. Even S.D Burman favoured kishore kumar. But he was more successful with Rafi saab songs.

How come in the film “Chote Nawab”. RD Burman was an exaggerated music director. “Yamma Yamma …………..” from Shan, he tried everyone and in the end he ultimately went to Rafi Sahib and said aap he meri akhari umeed hai and aapko meri high pitch pe gana hai.He sang with him. Ultimately RDB surrendered and wanted to re-record the song as he could not match the pitch of MR. But never could be recorded. Another reason may be the language and dialect - Urdu and Bengali.

I saw a youtube in which RDB said that "AA aaja" song was okayed in one take. Which version is the truth? In another interview, RDB had said that he felt comfortable with Kishore as he was more like a friend and Rafi Sahab was a senior associated with his father SDB.. In another interview, RDB had mentioned that during recording of "Yamma Yamma" song in Shaan, RDB had made a mistake ( not Rafi Sahab) but could not rectify that error as Rafi sahab had passed away - and the song as it was released
