Since everyone is loving this again, just wanted to say for those that dont already know the meaning behind this song, M.I.A made this song to comment on the stereotypes of immigrants (of all kinds, not just “legal” ones) saying the stereotypes, implying that she’s violent (she herself is a refugee) and she just wants to rob people. At least thats what one would think if you just think of the stereotypes and listen to the lyrics, but if you watch the video too, she’s not doing that. She’s working hard at a food truck, making a living for herself. Ironically, completely missing the point, i think she got banned from some government building for this song (i forgot exactly where). Just wanted to bring it up since this (sadly) is still relevant today, if not more so! (Also listen to her other music, she has tons of other great ass music!)

Christian Gauthier no she escaped all that. She doesn’t support them or the government they fight against, just the innocent people caught in the crossfire. Shes a humanitarian and a refugee herself, shes said that she doesn’t support them, even if her father was a part of that organization. I mean considering she fled the conflict and didnt join them or anything should be enough proof, thats what i think at least.
