I totally agree with what you have said in regards to the accent when speaking English. 👏👏👏 We Singaporeans are frequently mocked for speaking Singlish, however, it's just part and parcel of our culture. It doesn't mean that we can't speak proper English with the right grammar. 💪
@文懿黃 I guess it's partly due to the big topic of racial superiority. However I really do feel that as long as we speak with confidence and the sentences make sense, there's nothing to be embarrassed about. 😊

@Christine It doesn’t depend on the group of people, it depends on the education they got and themselves. 有些人, 就是想要找麻烦, 别理他们就ok.

@@travelling_potato I don't think so, with PC culture these days racism is not accepted and looked down upon in America.
I’m a chinese growing up in America. I will always get discriminated from those American. Especially black. I always felt so ashamed of my culture. My parents worked in a chinese restaurant so they will be laughing at my parents which also got me super ashamed of my parents. Think back I felt like I should be ashamed thinking like that. I should be proud of my culture and being an asian. But it’s just super difficult try to fit in and not get the weird looks from others. Some of my friends gave me advice but nothing really helped. I even got laugh at by people whom grade level are lower than mine. I got low self esteem. I always tried to fit in and make friends. A lot and lot of friends. But at the end most of them are friends with me because I can give them benefits.

Yes relatable. I’m Asian as well though I grew up in Canada and I’m sometimes ashamed and wished that I wasn’t Asian. Now with the virus people would just say things that would hurt my feelings. They would just stay away from me because “I had the virus” (even if I didn’t). You’re right that we should all be proud and just respect where we come from. Though it’s not like I’ve even been racist to other people, which means I don’t deserve being laughed at. I am in a school where we actually learn Chinese for a couple of months and my Chinese teacher put a weird video on the school’s website. I was embarrassed because people would say that we had small eyes (which is basically being racist). I agree some people do have small eyes but not everyone does and what if we had small eyes? It doesn’t mean you can bully the ones who look different than you. The world is like this though, we have to live like this. I just hope things would change in the future and that other people get to know more about our culture and who we really are. Be strong! I hope the problems will be solved :D

I always have to be nice to people so they would at least respect me a little.

*ARCTIC FOX* omg hope things are getting better for you. Even tho there is that virus stuff happening no one laugh or stay away from me probably because I’m friends with them. Just stay nice to people and they will one day see what’s going on. And true we (some) have small eyes or slanted eyes to be more specific but it doesn’t change the fact we are human as well. If anyone laugh at you because of your small eyes don’t get mad at them or feel offended because they are the stupid one there laughing at you just because you “look” different. If anyone stay away from you because of the virus leave them alone. Thank you for this you really made my day 💫💫❤️ hope yours is better as well

Thanks for speaking the truth about racism in the US! So long “American Dream”!
我爱你的视频杨老师 !! I watch your videos to learn Chinese (right now I'm just a beginner, one day I'll come back and write my thoughts to you in Mandarin :^) ). I just wanted to say that I think the topic you're bringing up here is so important and I thank you for being so honest about your experience in America with your viewers. I've heard similar stories so many times and I'm glad you're not sugar coating it for people who are considering moving there, especially with how media loves to erase Asians experiences of discrimination. Keep it up, thank you for being yourself, would love more casual videos like this :) Take care
