Hi there Karen. Just subscribed to your channel because I first saw your "making the pork bone tea" vlog. Really cool. I'm a Canadian born Chinese person who's always wanted to live in HK but never had took the dive. Major regret. Anyways, just wanted to say how impressed I am and envious of your ability to speak Cantonese, Putonghua, English, and Malay being from Malaysia. I thought I would hear your Malay accent but really did not at all. All the points you made about specifically towards socializing oneself to Hong Kong really apply in general. I come from Vancouver and like your home, it's a slower moving city than say Toronto or LA. West coasters are much more chill, relaxed, and dressed down than East coast, fast paced counterparts. You gave great advice about making friends with "familiar faces and similar background" people to get a "grounding" to one's new surroundings, as well as going to church or other "social services" places like community centres, or even attending night school "interest" classes. Just wanted to say "Hi" and look forward to watching the rest of your vids. Cheers.

Very objective sharing and comparisons! I concur most of the points you mentioned as I have ever lived in Hong kong for a period of times. I am proud of you as a Malaysian that speaks from the heart. I love HK in certain ways but love Malaysia more for a better living environment. I love the ”纯” of Malaysian 😊 living for a simple life with simply harmony surroundings.

Well done, Karen!!! Really impressed by your tenacity to make it in a place that's not known for being immigrants friendly due to its sky high housing prices.
Do Malaysian speak Cantonese? I thought Malay is totally different from Cantonese?

@@weijyeng4539 but official language is Malay right? 2nd language is Cantonese? I'm confused. And some speak Mandarin as their 1st language?

@@SimonCU Hi Dear, let me brief you about Malaysia, Malaysia consist of 3 major races, Local native Malay, Chinese and Indian, National language is Malay language, but in the school we do learn Malay, English and our own language, for example, if U are Chinese, you do learn Chinese, besides of Malay and English, hence Malaysian easily can speak 3 languages, and as Chinese we also speak our own dialect, for example, I am Hokkian 福建人, I do speak Hokkian with my parent and relatives n In KL people mostly speak Cantonese, hence most of the Chinese can speak fluence Cantanese. Like me I can speak 3 languages Chinese, English and Malay and 6 dialects such as Cantonese, Hokkian福建, Teochew潮州, Hakka客家 and Hainanese海南 。。

@@weijyeng4539 thank for your explanation. So you can speak many Chinese dialects but Mandarin is not one of them? So when offical people (politician and news reporter) announce things to their people do they announce it in Malay so everyone understands? Like all the street signs are in Malay and the prime minister will give speeches/announcement in Malay?
@weijyeng45393 жыл бұрын
@@SimonCU Yes, I can speak many Chinese dialects and Mandarin, Yes usually government announcement will be in Malay, however we have Chinese and Indian politician, they will speak their own language in order to make their own race of the people understand, hence we commonly have 3 languages, Malay, English and Chinese(Mandarin) and some even speak Cantonese too. So in Malaysia if U don't understand Malay still can survive..
Exactly. I have commented her before. She will never want to learn and correct her mistake, but continue to please her HK fans or audiences.

We work faster and make much more money here. But the housing also most expensive in the world.... an auntie working washing dishes here can earn monthly HK$15000 (about RM 8000) but still have to live in a tiny little cubicle smaller than a Malaysian home toilet >.
