I started arranging this for solo guitar last night, I started doubting myself a little bit now after seeing it arranged for quartet💀

Definitely keep going with the arrangement!

@MelaGuitarQuartet Very scared of the variation🤣 but from what I've seen the fugue should be fine! Maybe a few harmonics and thumb positions... we'll have to see

It's so nice to hear the best performance. I want to play this song, too. Tell me how to purchase your sheet music.

This is one of the most beautiful performances I've ever heard of any type of music. The organ, original medium for the music, is in my opinion highly over-rated and lacks the potential for nuance available to plucked strings-and the famous Vincenzo Galilei held the same opinion. But these performers take Franck's Prélude, Fugue et Variation to an entirely different level in terms of sensitive interpretation and ensemble playing. Every phrase is beautifully shaped, and every imitative passage is handed off and received with eloquence from one player to the next. There is none of the characteristic excesses so common to classical guitarists: Over-indulgent vibrato, irritatingly delayed pulse at cadences, inappropriate glissandi are all absent as the musicians are only serving the music. This quartet is as good as any string quartet in terms of ensemble.

I just learned a little-known fact: the piece was originally composed for piano and harmonium! Only later did Franck transcribe it for the organ. (There's an amazing rendition on KZbin using an accordion instead of a harmonium. It's incredible beautiful as well. You might appreciate it.)

And it's a good thing, as you can play B1 on it. I think would frustrating to hear the bass part limited to E2 on a 6-string guitar. I notice this limitation of 6 string guitars as I'm a bass singer that can reach B1.
