You assumed correctly--their outfits are not a gimmick. They are a conscious part of their artistic expression and they have said many times that they consider them very important. Also, it's good to know that Damiano once said in a newspaper interview (The Guardian) that everything he and Thomas (guitar) do regarding LGBTQ-related issues is filtered by the two LGBTQ-identifying members of the band, Victoria (bass) and Ethan (drummer).

Damiano is an absolute straight diva, but he doesn't feel that clothes have a gender. He just wears what he likes, and what he feels fits the song. He's also very much an ally, he had no problem kissing Thomas (lead guitar) in Poland, while making a statement in favor of gay rights. Not sure if it matters, but Vic (bass) and Ethan (drums) are both lgbt, Vic is bi with a preference for women, and Ethan is unlabeled

Thx. Totally agree on your views here (I'm hetero, but who cares). Actually you might label this song as LGBT, meaning you can be whoever you want, it doesn't matter. It will be interesting to follow your journey into other Måneskin songs. Peace.
