@Rajesh Sivaram he didn't even get nominated. The Oscars are too biased. They only look into the "Oscar bait" types of movies. Sad, stern, pretentious, and with long close up face shots. You know what I'm talking about.

I’m not gonna lie. He 100,000,000% absolutely no doubt got cheated out of receiving an Oscar. James totally deserved an Oscar for this performance. He was remarkable at 9 characters while others were perhaps only “alright” as 1 character.

Dennis is a good actor if he's just impersonating Barry.
@talacocheta9001
@talacocheta9001 5 жыл бұрын
Many alters can do that because they co-host enough that they learn how to impersonate the regular host. That's why the true number of people with DID isn't known; because someone can have it and not know it and the alters that front don't want anyone to find out, so they pretend to be the person.

The premise of tricking the personalities to fight against each other in order to escape actually never played out in the film. Hedwig is easily manipulated, but he did not hold the ability to get the girls out, and he didn't want the girls to leave anyways. So....the whole "impurity" thing and the main girl's painful past got her out of her imprisonment, not the personalities tripping over each other.
@XanderCrease

barbaro267 was he easily manipulated? I think he was manipulated only by Dennis and the matriarch character. The personalities were too committed to overcome the host. The three personalities grooming the young women for the beast did not have enough time to be convinced otherwise. The beast was making his appearance as quickly as possible.
@TheFilipaze
@TheFilipaze 7 жыл бұрын
barbaro267 Well, Barry didn't like what they were doing, did he? He was the one who knew all the personalities but Dennis and Patricia took his power to "come to the light" at will.

It won't. M. Night made a few crappy movies, and earned a reputation as someone with a funny name to be ridiculed. So "The Academy" will probably ignore this movie. Also, the content of this movie tends to be something boring people would label as "weird", and weird movies, no matter how great, don't win Hollywood awards.

something really peculiar happened when i watched this. my brain 'saw' him with different hair on each personality. afterwards i had to go back and watch the preview to see the same haircut. i guess it is just a credit to mcavoy's ability to project an idea with his acting. it was a challenging film for me emotionally as i dated someone with this mental process. it was not as pronounced but still that also was challenging. we have really a narrow way of perceiving others and even containing their personalities or preventing change in them. so having relationship with someone who exhibits change constantly is profound.

If anyone wants to read more into this, DID, I highly recommend "When Rabbit Howls". It's the true story of Truddi Chase who had 96 distinct personalities. Truddi writes in first person, and writes as other personalities as well. The book does an excellent job of explaining how and when Truddi's brain creates these personalities. This is the type of book that stays with you.

I clapped like a giddy school girl at the end of split. So exciting waiting for Glass. When Kevin shifted into the beast i dropped jaw. Even tho it was so simple a transformation. And when he realized as the Horde she was Broken just like him and said "the broken are the more evolved" that was perfect. It explained why he transformed to begin with. And could she eventually do the same to join Dunn? Who knows. I don't know if her character will be in the next universe. But she should. m.night worked so hard on allowing us into her world and helping us understand who she is. And than going thru this abduction as well. It must've awoken something great inside of her. Much love M.Night.

People who suffer from DID are attacking the film lol saying we have no idea what its really like. Lets be honest here folks, the movie makes DID look alot worse that it actually is. JTundra I saw the movie with someone who has D.I.D. and we both thought it was respectful. akaElleLatham That may be true or at least in part. There are people who repress memories and behavior because of stress. A lot of people think Dr.Jeckle and Mr.Hyde is really about alcoholism. I don't build a tolerance to it so 3 beers get me drunk and I don't remember what had happened afterwards (naturally I don't drink anymore). Some people are just as capable athleticly as others but can't perform with the wrong mindset so it makes sense that one alter can push their physiology to the structural limit and another can't fight their way out of a paper bag.

This film is so desperately needed imo!! Far too few mental health professionals qualified to treat this condition at all, let alone in a way that is profoundly empowering (which is what DID survivors need and deserve)!!! I saw the film yesterday. Apart from the last scenes it wasn't that scary...but next time I'm going to see a new movie I won't watch the trailers because I already knew almost everything...it was like seeing a movie again... anyway I liked it even if I hate horror and the last scenes were definitely horror... He is amazing, as always, of course! The women , too were very very good!!

"I've had this idea in my head for 15 years." Well now we know why the film wasn't as shitty as his more recent endeavours.
