One time a hedge fund trader (based in Singapore) mentioned to us on chat a decade ago: "Diversification is the only free lunch on Wall Street." Yes, it might make your profitability more average any point in time but I think it makes more and more sense in the long run to dampen the volatility in your returns. Your view is closer to Jim Rogers' advices but he is an investor and not a trader. But your actions in hedging your stock positions with index futures, you are essential doing something to dampen the volatility in your return as well...

I think It's fine everyone has different method to trade/invest, which was adjusted according their strength and pattern. It's not essential to identify someone is a trader/investor. When you find opportunities, you would catch them no matter using a trader/investor way. The market is a place for people to make money but not identify who they are.

@@MilaYuen Indeed the market is a place to make/lose money but it is also a place to find out who you are (hopefully for betterment and honesty). Je Mila Shepa Dorje (Je is honorific so you have the same name Mila) said his religion is to stop self-deception.
