Around 1975/1976 I listened to this song when I was in class 9 perhaps. The song attracted me the most. I was not allowed to see movies those days. I had not gone toany cinema hall. But my father being a teacher from Odisha always encouraged me to learn hindi. So I had a fairly good control over hindi. Also my father enthused me to singing in th school where he was the Headmaster. With these resources I always tried to copy this song at home and used to sing it at home in full volume Although nobody liked my song openly still nobody disiked it.This was oneof my best hindi songs of school days. Now when I see it in youtube with Rajesh khanna and Hema Malini the beauty ofthe song is multipled. 🙏

He was not trained in classical music but when given the job he did it full justice. he very seriously learnt and practice. In my younger days in late eighty’s and early nineties i and my chucha used to study together. We are Pakistanis but All India radio was usually on. When ever this song used to come on, it would make both of us stop every thing and we used to be lost in this song. My uncles passed away a couple of years ago in his mid fifties. Now this song bings his memories and tears in my eyes. I miss him.

Legend has it that this song was to be picturised on Hema Malini only to be sung by Lata Mangeshkar. When the song was recorded Kishore Kumar pleaded with RD Burman to let in a male version too. RD spoke to the director and Rajesh Khanna who supported this move. After this was recorded the female version was rendered or almost relegated to the sidelines with due respect to Lata didi. The KK version was a hit. What a rendition by our great Kishore Kumar sir❤
