I had a house built in Merida. It was quality workmanship, but maintenance was always an issue due to the lime, etc. in the water, the heat, and the sun. Humidity takes its toll on furnishings,and the washing machines will need to have their filters cleaned of small debris from the lime silt. Also, drain the hot water heater every 3 to 4 months to maintain its life expectancy. Mine was located in an outdoor closet which was very handy so I didn’t need to hook up a hose to it for draining. You can use vinegar for the washer and dishwasher to prevent lime buildup too. Drain covers help with drain flies, but a safe solution like what was suggested will help. All in all, life in Merida is paradise. Enjoy!

I want you to thank KZbin's logarithm that thinks the content of this video would be of my interest, 😉. At around 8:10 the lady in the video says: "the conversion is getting worse", I believe that comment is open to debate because if you ask 150 million Mexicans they're going to say "the exchange rate is getting better, and now I can finally take my family on a vacation to Disneyland. My humble opinion, you guys are doing amazing. You live in a beautiful house, you have a beautiful family, you live in a paradisical place, and the average Mexican envies you because with all their hard work they will never live the way you do, and you're still complaining. I apologize for that comment, I just feel some people don't get to complain, I have friends that are making $200,000 and they keep complaining. You guys deserve what you have and more, my suggestion is to stop complaining, and be grateful for all your accomplishments. If the contractor would have built the house with very expensive materials the cost of the house would have been more expensive and by definition your rent would be more expensive. I guess I'm a perpetual optimist. Saludos de un mexicano.
@TheMerryMisadventuresFamily Жыл бұрын
You’re right we do live more lavishly than most other Yucatecans and Meridians here. The comment was purely selfish and only reflecting our viewpoint from what we used to be paying versus now. We certainly do not make 200k and there are plenty of Mexicans living here that are wealthier and live more expensively than we do. But we acknowledge our status and the privilege of being paid in USD. I’m happy things may be getting easier to afford for people accustomed to always using the peso. For us, we’ve had to adjust our budget….not a complaint. Just an observation.

Don’t wanna be mean but , just hope all this people from the US is paying taxes and trying to learn Spanish,it’s too much much people already and not many contribute for the country,just keep that in mind.Blessings
@TheMerryMisadventuresFamily Жыл бұрын
Not mean at all 🙂 feel free to express yourself. We want our entire family to know Spanish but I’m sure there are families that aren’t concerned. The tax situation is complicated but we won’t be here all the time we’re travelers. Plus keep in mind not just Americans are immigrating I’ve seen Argentinians, Indians, Russians and even Thai people. Personally taxes are the very LEAST a people can contribute. For instance Japanese introduced sushi to Mexico that’s much more impactful than a few dollars the government may or may not spend correctly. I appreciate your comment 🙏🏿

@StreetcarDesire Жыл бұрын
@@TheMerryMisadventuresFamilyGentrification. We bring our USD over there to take advantage of the lower housing market therefore displacing some locals who cannot affor housing as it is. It’s a double edged sword because Americans can’t afford housing so they’re immigrating to Mexico. I do think there a differences between Mexicans immigrating to America, but it’s complicated because they do the same thing and it’s not necessarily malicious. But all of it impacts housing availability for the locals.
@TheMerryMisadventuresFamily Жыл бұрын
@@StreetcarDesire ahh okay i understand this perspective. It’s definitely something we struggle with as full time travelers and people who have left their home country. We try to combat it by supporting local businesses and shopping like the locals do as much as possible but our presence is inevitably going to change how things operate here
