Up until my 30’s I was still pretty wild. Partied, drank and smoked (never hard drugs). Now I’m 60 and don’t do anything but my son has grown up the complete opposite of me, never rebellious, never snuck out at night, hardly drinks and never smoked anything. My mother says that I don’t deserve him, that I should have got one like me. I nearly gave her a nervous breakdown and she was on Valium when I was 14. Poor mum, I feel terrible now, such a rebellious little shit I was.

Dr Feelgood was the street name for a drug dealer in Hollywood, back when they recorded this song. It is partially about him, partially about the band's own drug use and partially a warning about that life. They had not completely gotten sober by then but they eventually would become clean. There is a good autobiographical movie on Netflix called The Dirt, all about their band and the stuff they went through.

I read the book The Dirt. Haven’t seen the movie yet. Heard it’s about 95% accurate. Vince is kinda hard to understand sometimes. Look up the lyrics. It will enlighten you about Dr. Feelgood. For the sickest drum solo ever.....Wild Side official video. And Tommy did that in concert back in the day!

it's about drug dealers. Nikki Sixx, the main songwriter for the band was badly into heroin. the song kickstart my heart is literally about him being brought back to life after an overdose. He died twice from overdoses and was brought back to life. Finally beat the habit.

THE DIRT is a fun, tight good time (like your mother) but it's barely a scratch on the ass of what actually happened with that band. It's kind of crazy that even now, decades later, THE COMMITMENTS is such a hugely entertaining movie with amazing musical numbers, and you still get a complete sense of everyone in the band even when there's nine of them... and they're a fictional band!! It's why I hated THE RUNAWAYS movie. It was all about Joan Jett and Cherie when Lita Ford was by far the ballsiest and most talented member of the band.

Dr. Feelgood is actually an anti-drug song. Written by Nikki Sixx who flatlined in Dec 1987 from a drug overdose of heroin, brought back to life with a 2nd shot of adrenaline (thus, the title song “Kick Start my Heart”). “Dr. Feelgood” is reference to the lowlife loser who deals the drugs (and in some instances helps his customers shoot-up). Key phrases; “He’s gonna be your Frankenstein”, and “Let him soothe your soul, just take his hand...some people call him an evil man....Let him introduce himself real good”, meaning~ this is how it’s gonna go down, be cautious and aware this is how he operates. Back when this was newly released and playing on Mtv, I remember the VJ talking about how Janet Jackson dug this song...said (paraphrasing) it had an awesome groove to it.
